Sorry if this has been asked before, but my googling and searching has been deficient.

What speakers can you connect, without an ampifier, to my apple tv. I'd like to play music without turning on the TV, and I don't have a receiver in the room (nor do I want one). I'd like to keep everything as small as possible -- i.e., hooking powered speakers of some sort directly into the apple tv. What input would I use?

I'd be looking to spend aroun $100-200. (It's a small room.)

You can hook up any powered speakers using a mini-plug to RCA connector cable and use the analog audio out from the Apple TV. Here's an example of the cable I'm referring to:

The difficulty then becomes how do you control the volume remotely? If this is a concern, make sure factor this in with your powered speaker purchase...

You can select in the iTunes preferences whether the volume of AirTunes speakers (which is how I would use the :apple:TV in this case) is controlled by iTunes or not. This is how I have mine set up, and I can control the volume of iTunes using my iPod Touch (and the :apple:TV responds accordingly). Works great.
