Every few days i'll notice that my apple tv has turned itself on.

I always power off when i'm done watching.

I don't think it's an update thing, unless it's updated two or three times a week.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent this?

I've noticed a certain combination from my Sky+ remote turns my AppleTV on.

Could be something like that, do you have a toshiba tv by any change?

Both of mine randomly switch themselves on. They also randomly lose connection to iTunes. The also randomly lose any ability to play media files.

A power-cycle usually solves the latter issues, but that involves delving into the rats nest of wiring behind each TV, so a bit rubbish really. Still, when they're working properly they're great :)

Fishy indeed

Thanks for the replies!

I don't have a toshiba and i don't really use any other remotes, but i'll be on the lookout for related electronics. Thanks for the tip.

One possibility is that it's a wireless connectivity issue. The tv updates itself, so it's probably looking for signals all the time. Maybe if the wireless goes out, it'll wake up.

That might explain the itunes connection thing, although i haven't experienced that.

Just a guess.

My Apple TV turns itself on randomly too. I always power mine down when I'm done otherwise it gets really hot in my entertainment console. I can't say how often it's happening, sometimes it's few and far between.

I wish they'd build in an auto power off like the sleep on my Mac. Oh, I have a Panasonic Plasma, but I don't notice the Apple TV turning on when I'm using another remote.

The same thing happens to me once a week, like clockwork. Has nothing to do with any other remotes, because it will happen when I'm not anywhere near any of the equipment or remotes connected to the aTV. Also, I've got the aTV "linked" to my remote.

This is a "take it back" level problem -- I can't be moving my entire entertainment center to access my surge protector to reset the aTV once per week (jerking the cord out of the back of the aTV is also not an acceptable solution). Love the device otherwise, but this is freaking aggravating.

Apple TV turns itself on

Mine does that too, even though I have the most-current software. I think that there must be a program whereby the unit turns on, checks in with the Internet to see if there are any messages but then doesn't turn itself off. I also have it in a cabinet and it's difficult to get to the wiring but it really heats up the cabinet when it's left on all day.

Mine had always turned itself on at random before the last software update, but it hasn't done it since. I don't think there's much difference between on and off anyway though - the power consumption doesn't drop much so I suspect it just turns off the lamp and the video out.

I experience this with my aTV unit also.

I'll purposely put it to sleep only to find it "mysteriously" turned back on a few hours later..

If the damn thing didn't get so HOT I would feel a little better about it just staying on.

I'm expecting to come home one day and find a hole in my entertainment center from where the aTV used to sit..

Same here but today i got the amber led flashing and had to reset it, what gives oh its only a month old plus when the amber light was falshing it had a pic of the apple tv on my tv screen.

I never bother turning mine off. Hard drive stays on no matter what, and the power consumption is pretty low.

If it went into proper standby mode (hard drive powering down etc) automatically, great. But it doesn't.
