I'm currently streaming videos from my PC to my PS3. While the PS3 pretty much does a good job of this, it does occasionally have to buffer for videos that are in HD, which can get annoying

I was wondering if anyone has happened to play around with both Apple TV and the PS3, and compared their ability to stream videos from the PC. Does Apple TV ever struggle/studder on HD videos that are 720p with a high bitrate?

Run your videos through Handbrake on the AppleTV2 setting. Your PS3 should be able to play them just fine (you'd need to do this for the AppleTV2 anyway)

Is your PS3 hard wired or connected through WiFi? The PS3 only has wireless G which is much slower than the wireless N of the :apple:TV2. If your videos are stuttering you could have a throughput issue. I would suggest hard wiring the PS3 with at least cat5e cabling.

Apples n standard only supports 65mbit max. Not a big difference between 54 g and 65mbit n speeds

Rubbish. "Apples n standard" allows my MBP to connect at 300 Mbps. So, if you referring to the ATV2 specifically, cite your source.

How are you streaming to the PS3 currently? Is it PS3MediaServer? If the files are not in a PS3-compatible format, the bumps might be due to transcoding delay if your computer cannot keep up with the live transcoding process.

im using a media server via windows media player. Pretty much just playing .avi and .mp4 files.

I was referring to my own experience. No more than 65mbit with a n router. The same router my macbook is connected to with 300mbit.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, I'm not speaking about Apple products in general, only about ATV2.
