Ok, I have a question:

I'm considering Apple TV, but I just don't get what it does that is so cool.

Can you guys help me out with this?

Thanks.

I use the apple tv to watch the movies I have on my Mac on my HDTV.
You can also use Netflix with it!

Why are you "considering" getting an ATV if you do not "get" what it does. Do you just have an extra $100 and not sure what to do with it. If that is the case there are several worthy charities that could use the help.

On the other hand if you need to stream content from the internet or your home computer to TV's in your house then the ATV might be for you.

We have two of them and they have proven to be just what we were looking for, we have now cut out a $40 a month cable bill because of the ATV.

Basically; I think most people use it primarily to stream movies from a computer's hard drive. But it can be used to stream music as well as photos.
I have had an older ATV for two years now and have access to a Hard drive with over 800 movies. I'm about to thrash it and use my new Samsung HD Tv that can do the same thing. The advantage my Tv has over the ATV is that it will stream and play movies in any format; whereas the ATV; all the movies have to be converted to a format the it will play. Very time consuming!

Another advantage; and it could be just my set up that is doing it; but, I have yet to lose a connection with my Samsung Tv since I've set it up to stream. The ATV on the other hand has been a nightmare; look at my modem the wrong way and I lose a connection; than fight with it to get it back working.
The ATV works in conjunction with Itunes; what a joke that program is. Can become very frustrating at times. Just lost 12000 photos that I had synced to the ATV; only because the ATV would not recognize a movie that I had converted and added to Itunes. I had to disconnect and reconnect Itunes to the ATV; consequently loosing all the photos. Do you know how long it will take.s to sync 12000 movies again? Not pretty!!!
Just my opinion.
The ATV has a nice interface to work with; but that is the only advantage that I see over my Samsung Tv!!!
