Many, I love appletv. But I'm finding the movies section is horrible. I love the interface, but 720p conversions don't look that great, and I converted over 100 movies, which I must say is one big pain the butt. I wish Appletv supported mkv files at 1080p, but it does not. The rest of appletv is great!, but with no true hdtv movie support, no netflix hd streaming (I don't see this coming anytime soon as it would competition to Itunes), I think I'm going to be looking elsewhere for high quality movie playback once again..

Sigh..

the HD movies look pretty good on my Vizio. But have never been able to see a big difference between 720p and 1080p anyways. My vizio is only 1080i and thats more than good enough for me.

I don't think the apple tv, at this point, will ever be a good choice for videofiles, it won't ever be 1080p. I find the apple tv to be a competent living room replacement for cable. Especially with boxee. If I were to build a movie theatre in my basement, I wouldn't even consider an apple tv.

on a side note, I find my oppo 1080p upconverting dvd player also looks excellent, and ofcourse can play and cheap standard dvd. This is still my fav way to watch movies I own. It also works awesome with netflix dvd's. I basically rent from both netflix and itunes, depending on the convenience factor. It works out well.

and while i doubt netflix will ever be on iTunes, it has been rumored that it will appear on boxee....

I use TIVO for my cabletv, I'm a big fan because of multiroom capability and transferring to my computer to put on ipod etc. Tivo states they are coming out with netflix/and netflix HD in the new few months which I am excited about, so I will just use that.

Can someone recommend an exellent video streamer for mkv maybe 1080p with cover art? I'm using Sagetv and their HD extenders right now which are great, but the software can be flaky, especially the MAC side.

Thanks
Mo

Well I'm back to appletv. There is simply no other media device on the market that I have encountered that has the brilliant interface and easy user operability than the appletv. Granted, the picture quality isn't the best in the world, but you can't have anything in the world..

did you guys miss me?
