Just think of it: Apple TV could then have a real web browser, and be extremely easy to navigate with. Typing would be greatly improved and so many of the unit's features, like youtube and photo browsing would get even more user friendly.

This is a pipe dream, I know, but it shouldn't be. The Wii Remote has all the buttons needed - no more, no less.

I'm sure this can be modded. Some people have done incredible stuff with the Wii remote (even an interactive whiteboard on ANY flat surface).

Good suggestion.

Almost everything about the Wii mote is done via accelerometers that communicate over Bluetooth. Since the AppleTV doesn't have it, it wont happen.

The Wii-mote DOES have IR, but it's for simple left to right/up to down tracking.

I like my wiimote for what it does on the wii, but I would much prefer that a wifi app is written for the iPhone to use it as an Apple TV remote.

I used a similar iPhone optimized app/web UI for XBMC and while it was ok, I would much prefer a wiimote like UI. The biggest issue issue for things like rewinding, I don't want to have to watch two screens. There are also logistic issues like not being able to easily access the :apple:TV while I'm on the phone. If I'm taking a call, my GF can't use the :apple:TV.

A pointer is great for selecting from menus and scrubbing through a video, but they also need to keep the existing remote buttons to execute common command w/o-flailing.

Oh, and while they're at it.... ADD A PROGRAMMABLE VOLUME CONTROL

BTW - I don't have a land line phone.
