sorry if this is a stupid question with a blatant answer, but what exactly is apple tv? does it mean I can watch downloaded itunes content through my tv?

http://www.apple.com/appletv/

Basically, its a set-top box for you TV that allows you to rent and purchase tv shows and movies from the iTunes store and have them stream directly to your tv. It also has an option to connect to your computer (assuming it's on the same wifi network) and stream any of the content from your iTunes library.

And, like almost everything else you can plug into your tv these days, you can access Netflix from it.

You can play iTunes compatible content to your TV (or audio system), i.e., content loaded in your iTunes library. Whether purchased from iTunes Store (or rented) or ripped from CD's or DVD's. iTunes (the application) is mp3 compatible, so it'll play music from other download services like Amazon.

I am on the fence myself - yet another device to play the overabundance of media out there. However, I am considering getting one for AirPlay. If it works as the web site says it seems that I could take a video, say of one of my kids concerts, and be able to just stream it right to the tv. That sounds kind of awesome to me. I know that you could transfer it to the mac and use it with Apple TV but that sounds like kind of a hassle to me. I had been plugging my macbook directly into my htv before I picked up a Tivo box.
