Apple TV2 into Panasonic TH42 PW7 (No HDMI)

Hi all,

My neighbour has an older Panasonic TH42 PW7 that has no HDMI connection and wants to get an Apple TV 2.

Is there any way of connecting it other than HDMI?

Is it possible to connect it somehow via component using a convertor of some kind, or is he just out of luck?

42-inch VGA would be terrible quality...you'd be better off with THIS. I don't know if it works good with HDCP content though.

That's a good thought on HDCP.

OP, regardless of what solution you find and how well it works, any TV without DVI or HDMI is not going to be HDCP compliant. Therefore, purchased or rented HD content will not work probably.

If your neighbor really wants to use the AppleTV, they'll need a new television.

What are they wanting to do with the ATV2? If they can get by without the iTunes store, they might able to enjoy a Roku box. It has standard composite (yellow, white, red) connectors already on the unit. The Roku can do Netflix (via instant queue I think), as well as a couple other streaming services.

Thanks all, I spoken to him and suggested that rather than him spend cash on devices and cables that will result in a fugly image, that he replace the TV.

He could easily replace his 42" with a new 1080p model for £400 or so.
