Hi,

I was thinking about getting two controllers for the Apple TV 4K 64GB in order to check out that arcade feature... Do you guys think it’s worth it? What’s your experiences when it comes to gaming on the Apple TV? Which controller would you recommend? I’m not much of a gamer. I just have an old PS3 which barely gets used, but I’d like to check out some two player games on the Apple TV. Speaking of; any game recommendations?

Thanks

Personally I tried it on my MBP16 with a https://www.8bitdo.com/zero2/ that I had laying around (I use them as clickers for presentations).

If you have a Mac I would suggest you try the games there for first, and if you find something you like you progress to getting a controller; which basically would be anything you personally like and that's supported: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210414

I had planned on getting a PlayStation DualShock 4 if I'd enjoyed the games (I didn't).

Thanks for the info, and for the links ? I have an old iMac, but I mainly use it for pretty basic things (it’s super slow on Catalina and doesn’t support Big Sur), so the Apple TV is way faster for me, lol ? I’ve heard/read rumours that Apple might convert their TV box to also work as a top of the line game system - so, here’s hoping for some love for the 2017 Apple TV as well... ?

Btw, I want to mention that my desire to use the Apple TV for gaming is simply because I hate overly complicated games which take forever to load (with lots of video and story etc.). The Apple TV is perfect for me in that regard as I can easily and quickly start a game with zero to minimal loading times. Basically, I just want to quickly play the occasional game without too much compromises made to graphics and gameplay. I’ve found a few that I can play pretty well with the Apple remote, but the gaming library is scarce to put it mildly. Hopefully they’ll keep expanding the arcade/gaming library. I think I’ll hold off buying a couple of great controllers for now, until more, and better, games become available.

With similar wants (except that about graphics) I got a retro platform. In my case the NES one, but there are others.

Sorry, I’m not near my Apple TV now, but can you play emulators on it? That would be great ?
If you click the link in what I wrote you'll find that I'm talking about hardware.

A couple of years ago Nintendo and Sega released retro versions of their early platforms; technically emulators that come with like 20-30 games preinstalled, so you can just hook them up to your tv (HDMI) and start playing.

Bumping this, as I am looking for a controller, as I have a few games that would work better with physical buttons. Is it only the Playstation/Xbox controllers that work? As they seem to be both expensive and out of stock everywhere...

I was hoping for a good Black Friday deal on a controller for my Apple TV, but £50 seems to be the floor. At least the Nimbus+ was reduced to that level, so opted for one of those.
