Apple TV's in the UK

How do you know those companies have even shown any interest in Apple TV as a platform? It's not up to Apple to write 3rd party apps. My TV has BBC iPlayer built in, but none of the others you mention. Is that Panasonic's fault? I doubt it. It's more likely the organisations concerned aren't interested in platforms that are not just a web browser and Flash viewer.

Well, my PS3 has most of those options as does my iPhone, and I know most of them are also available on the iPad. Wii and Xbox also have a few of those. Point is, BBC especially will have an interest as they have to, it's in their charter to be on as many devices as possible.
This needs to be native on the Apple TV in the UK for it to be a best seller

Yes, all 4 catch up services mentioned are available on the iPad. Plus TVCatchup for live Freeview (odd naming for a live service).
As they are already in the iOS system, it should be possible. Hopefully the Apple TV will get some UK love.

The lack of this on the new Apple TV has made me drop the idea of upgrading from the 2.
The PS3 versions are basically just web pages, not actual applications.
The BBC has to be platform neutral, but the charter doesn't state that it must be on every particular platform.
In response to the OP, the US doesn't have any TV catchup services on the AppleTV either, so the UK is no different to the US in this respect.
They have all made iPad apps which are mainly very good especially iPlayer.
It's the same for Ireland with the Tv3player and RTE player.
Hopefully apple tv apps will come soon.
With the forthcoming full size Apple TV of course all the companies are interested.
The difference in this instance is that there is a public SDK to develop for iPhone and iPad, there isn't for the AppleTV.
Hopefully there might be, sometime this year though
whether that be the case or not, as it stands right now, it's not possible for someone to develop anything for the AppleTV other than Apple themselves.
the OP asked by the UK was not being cared for, however in reality there is not TV catchup application in the US either, so the point the OP was trying to make is not valid.
iPlayer, 4OD and Demand 5 can all be played on the AppleTV using AirPlay from any iPad and most iPhones. ITV player doesn't support it yet.
EDIT ITV Player may work on iPhone 4S or iPads >1 but I've not tried them so can't say for sure.

If you jailbreak it, you can get all of the things you mentioned. Jailbreak, install XBMC and it opens up a new world for the appletv. Mine even has HD streams of Sky Sports 1,2,3,4, Sky F1 Channel, all of the Sky Movies channel, and plenty more.
my guess is that apple won't want them on the apple TV because it will hurt their profits of selling the shows through iTunes.

Not really, cos iPlayer only lets you watch most things for 1 week after broadcast. Some series remain available for the duration of the season - so it's not like you can watch old episodes of classic shows which would take profit away from Apple.
True but 4OD keeps quite a few of their shows on there indefinitely, though with ads.
It is free. Install xbmc, then an add on called 'navix'. All sorts of live streams and other content.
