Apple Watch and iOS 9.02

My iPhone 6s Plus is not jailbroken but I'm keeping the software in case I decide I do. I just got a great deal on new Apple sport watch. It won't let me pair without updating software. What should I do? Is there anyway around this or will I have to update to 10.O2 to use the watch?

If the watch is on watchOS 3, you have to be on iOS 10 to be able to use it.

I forgot there are versions of watchOS 2 that require iOS greater than 9.0.2 also, you may be be stuck having to upgrade either way...bummer.

Maybe I should just keep the software it's on and take back the watch. I hate the way apple forces you to update. It's our device we should do what we want.
