Apple Watch and Samsung Watch

I have not tried apple watch yet but I use to have a galaxy note edge and had the gear s smartwatch. I went back to apple and have the apple watch on order but I can say the gear s was nice and yes it had its own sim card and you could leave your phone at home and use the gear s independently. but it was very buggy and froze up a lot. I have since sold them both and went back to apple.
Samsung = every spec imaginable crammed into every device none of it fleshed out and working correctly but they are already working on the "next big thing" so now you've been abandoned.
Apple = takes their time adding features sometimes a long time but you can rest assured 99% of the time apple adds something it's ready to roll and fully fleshed out

Totally agree on the Samsung thing, especially on the abandonment - that's all android devices.
Wish I could agree on the Apple comment, but this last watch update broke more than it fixed for me, and IMO Yosemite isn't terribly polished even after a few updates. They seem to falling off a bit in their QA. It'd be nice to see them get back to where the were, quality-wise.
Well I think that's what the focus of iOS 9 and 10.11 is going to be. The watch update was awesome for me made everything faster battery last longer. I haven't seen any bugs yet.
I have a colleague who uses a Note 4, and has a Samsung watch. She absolutely loves it. I've not heard any complaints from her about it being slow, buggy etc.
She's never used an iPhone, so she has no basis for comparison between the two platforms, FWIW.

I really like the idea watch has its own sim card.. iPhone 6plus is perfect but too big for a lunch walk. It would be perfect it the iPhone can forward all the calls to the apple watch.
FYI, I just learned AT&T charges grandfather unlimited data plan users $30 instead of $10 for the Samsung watch data plan!!!

This is true. There are many times I will leave my phone at home and can still get calls and texts from my phone on my watch. Once the watch disconnects from BT, it automatically turns on it's remote connection and everything from the phone gets forwarded to the watch.
I don't care about the apps. I bought the watch to be able to do what I posted above done through the watch. I think these are the watches main purpose first and foremost.
I bought my watch back in February and to this day, don't have a single app installed on it.
I do use S Health which is natively installed on it.]
I have the T-Mobile version which costs me $5 per month for unlimited calls/texts.
My watches battery lasts three days between charges.

That's great for you. I see not a single improvement in mine. Instead I've got messages that ring my phone first (yes, I've tried all the "fixes" and it always comes back), HR issues, and lesser battery life. TBF, my watch was very snappy to begin with, but at the least, I should have seen no changes, rather than seeing changes for the worse.
The HR bug is that the watch doesn't take your HR every 10 minutes when you're active, only when you're not. It seems like everyone has this bug, so you likely have it too.
I certainly hope you're right about the OS X and iOS updates - we sure need stability there. Hopefully that's what we'll hear at WWDC.

I think we'll get there with the AW. I suspect it's a matter of battery life.
IMO this is the future of the watch - an always-connected device that takes and makes calls and messages with basic social media functions (and, ideally, GPS).
I'm more then happy with my Gear 2 Neo. Does all and more than I need a smartwatch to do, and has great battery life for days.
The only thing Apple Watch seems to one up on other watches is visual voicemail, but Google Voice emails/texts me a notification along with the transcript(not perfectly accurate), so that's not a big deal.

Which Samsung watch are you referring to? They've had like 5 thus far.
I am using a Samsung Gear Fit and it's awesome.
Get about 4 days of battery life with real world usage, notifications work great, display is phenomenal
I've got no complaints, and like it more than the Samsung Gear S I had for a short time.

He said sim card, and functions without a phone so he's talking about the Gear S. The Gear S absolutely trounces all over the apple watch, although it may not be everyones cup of tea in the looks dept. But then again the apple watch is pretty fugly as well.
Except their maps which was a disaster. Cook had to appologize for it. Some complain about iOS8 too being buggy so they take their time and with that they still dont get it right all the time.

Lets face it, none of them get it completely bug free and probably never will.
What doesn't work right on the Gear S? I don't own one anymore, but when I had it everything worked quite well. It's a powerhouse, it can act as it's own phone, or it can extend your phone allowing you to leave it at home. Apple watch you get an ugly glorified grossly overpriced beeper which still ties you to the phone.

Sounds to me like another "duh Samsung bad but me know why not, Apple guud" person. I do think they should stand behind their products more. Gear 1 to 2 was about 6 months, 2 to Gear live was 4 months. Live to Gear S was about 5 months but I don't consider the Gear S to be in the same line, rather a different line due to differing functionality. So the Gear Live has been around for almost a year, about the same as Apple products and that's even if Samsung releases something in June, which from rumors say the Gear A won't be released until the Fall.
To be honest i think Smart Watches are pointless and are a fad.
What are YOU going use your Smart Watch for rather than checking the time?? because Smart Watches are definitely too SMALL for daily uses like web browsing, playing games lots more.

Quick notifications and other actions that might be useful. Some might not care about that or have much use for it, others do.
I disagree, I find my smartwatch very useful. For the most part it's when I don't want to take my phone out of my pocket. A good example is if I'm driving, I can simply slightly turn my wrist and see what my notification is and if I should pull over and respond or whatever. Also when my hands are full and taking my phone out of my pocket is not an option it's nice to see whatever notification is coming in.
Other useful things are answering calls and having a conversation on my watch, once again nice if I can't or don't want to take my phone out of my pocket. Responding to text messages with voice is good. One of the best things about my smartwatch is I can leave my phone at home, and my watch takes over all its functions, receiving and making calls, notifications, etc. It's kind of cool to be able to leave a bulky phone behind sometimes.
Love my Gear 2. I bought it with the idea of using it for notifications only. I never planned on using it as a device to replace my phone. Why would I want to look at a tiny screen as my main device. When I look back at the reviews for the Gear and Gear 2, I can now see how short sighted the reviewers were. The fact is, the smartwatch is a very useful tool for notifications and as a fashion accessory. It doesn't need to be a standalone device to be considered useful like the old reviews want you to believe. Now that the Apple watch is out, it seems the expectations of these reviews have somewhat changed. Hmm.. Wonder why? Sorta reminds me how the Note got slammed for being so big, and now the iPhone 6+ doesn't get the same work over by those same reviewers.
