so I returned my aluminum watch and notice Apple had a text stating if you wanted to change your watch strap to another model to call Apple directly. (via their 888#)

Did anyone try this? As my replacement watch has the black sport band and I’m not keen on it.

Thanks

Others have tried to switch their band out with another one in the store, which I don't believe Apple supports this anymore. At least not since the original Apple Watch primarily back in 2015. But since you got that text message, then they would have to lease it acknowledge it.

If you call they will offer to exchange your strap for another that could have come with your Watch originally.

In other words, if you got a Space Grey Series 3 with Grey Sport Band, you could call and they could send you a Black Sport Band if you wanted.

They can't just send you any colour though. It has to be a combo that is already sold.

So the watch with black stainless steel comes with the black strap, which can only be exchanged for the white sport strap that comes with the stainless steel white strap?

A Space Black Stainless Steel with Black Sport Band could only be exchanged for a Space Black Milanese Loop.

So they won't do this in store but you can exchange through Apple CS?
Because I ordered 38mm SS with the white silicone combo, but then realized I preferred the Milanese so I placed another order for the Milanese combo with the intention of returning the first order. So are you guys saying that I can just call Apple CS and the can change this out and only charge me the difference?
That would be GREAT if so!

I bought my watch at the Apple retail store, when I called Apple 800-my Apple I was told I had to go to the store for exchange. I asked if I ordered the watch online if I could exchange the band to a Milanese band and she said NO. Only exchange my black sport band to another black sport band.

Has anyone successfully upgraded there Watch band with Apple at the retail store or customer service?

Well, she was wrong, and if she had bothered to enquire she would have been fully informed.

(I mean, what purpose would exchanging a band for the same band even serve?!)

Exactly... I’m going to call again and see what the next agent says. But since I bought the watch at the retail store does it really matter where I exchange the band?

If it was bought at a retail store without doing an in-store pickup (i.e. if you can't see the order on your Apple Store account online) then exchanging it without going to a store might not be possible, but it is still worth asking.

Apple has a whole system for this to avoid replacing a whole Watch just to get a different band.

I just called Apple because of the same situation. I ordered the SS series 3 with the white sports band but then found out than you can get the combo with the Milanese cheaper than buying the Milanese band separate. So I placed another order for the Milanese combo with my intention of returning the first order within the 14 days. I called apple to see if they would change out the bands and the person said "NO". I would have to return the first order. SO BE IT! I was trying to avoid me having to make a return and they having to accept a return but I guess not. It could have avoided them having to accept a return and me having to make one, but oh well.
