I've taken to not wearing my Apple Watch most of the time lately because I worry about it scratching up the MacBook to the left of the trackpad. I know, I know, I "should" be using the keyboard in such a way that my watch wouldn't be contacting the surface. But, reality being what it is, should I be worried about that little pin on the sport band marking up my beautiful new machine that I plan to have as my primary machine for a few years to come? Should I worry about the link bracelet or the Milanese band? I'm kinda missing wearing the Apple Watch but when I'm using the MBP I get all of those notifications anyway. That said, I like the fitness tracking and notifications when I step away from the MBP. Could really use some advice here - anyone been using or tried using an Apple Watch with their MacBook Pros and have experience? Am I just being paranoid?

Thanks!

If you have anything metal that is touching the laptop while you are operating it, then you aren't being paranoid.

If you set your laptop down on your lap, and you've got a belt or a zipper that is scratching up against the laptop, that can scratch the bottom as well.

The easiest thing to do is take it off when you want to use your Mac. You could go another route, and get a palm guard cover from Moshi when they release the 2016 version. I had one on my late 2011 MBP and it kept it looking like new all these years. I just recently took it off as I am trying to sell the Mac.

While that does make sense... reminds me of this:

Thanks for the feedback. You and everyone else in this thread. I'll just take it off. Thanks!

This is something I was thinking about with my SG MBP and my Link Bracelet. I've been sliding the watch down my arm so it doesn't touch, but am also curious if the 316L Stainless or the anodized aluminum is harder. 316L is soft for steel and anodizing is usually pretty hard, but it's also thin and hard to test (without trying to scratch that new MBP).

The anodizing may very well be harder than the steel on the pins or links, but I don't want to test it...

Does everyone here have the 15"? I have the 13" in Space Grey and my watch doesn't even touch the computer when my fingers are on home row.

you'd need to take a picture, as I'd actually be curious to see how that's possible. One of the main reasons the Mac has such a big empty bottom, if for palm rests. if you rest your palm on the case.. it's impossible to not get the watch on the case.

Here is just a quick shot of my natural typing position. When using the Touch Bar, I do admit to lifting my hand off the keyboard.

I would rather resort to taking my Stainless Apple Watch off. This looks awkward and you could still inadvertently scratch the MacBook. Wouldn't be worth it to me.
I'm not skeptical, I'm just asking what size computer everyone has. I don't know how this is awkward at all, as it's the position my hands naturally gravitate toward when touch typing. What do your hands look like when you're typing?

I understand it varies for everyone and their typing position. Personally, I'm not scratching my investment with an investment. Both of which I invested a lot of money in to. I would rather take the time to remove the Watch. But that's me. Also, with my stainless Watch, the scratches can be buffed out, where as If aluminum scratches, it's permanent.

Why are you so defensive? I am not discouraging anyone from removing their watch when using their computer. All I asked was what size everyone's computers are, and what your typing position is. I only took that photo because someone asked me to out of curiosity.

How is that previous statement defensive? I simply stated my rendition on how would I handle the situation. Then you clearly didn't read the the part where I stated removing the Watch was my preference, quoting "But that's just me." I understand you were not discouraging anyone from anything. My post was my personal choice and I was advising other forum members how I use My MacBook Pro and Apple Watch in conjunction.

And that's fine you took a photo, I never even commented on that, nor is it relevant to me, being everyone has a different Reachability with their MacBook.
