After activating the two factor authentication on my Apple ID all my devices show up a trustworthy devices except my Apple watch. The iCloud preferences panel on my Mac tell's me that "this device cannot be used to receive apple id verification codes".

Can a Apple Watch receive 2FA codes at all?

I think I'm on 2-step still, but my Apple Watch can get the authorization code if I choose to send it via SMS. I think this would work for 2FA as well ... provided your AW is set to recieve/mirror your phone's SMS messages.

But since the AW needs the iPhone nearby to recieve SMS messages, it's just as easy to send it to the iPhone directly. It's likely much more secure.
