That was a nice surprise. I checked the time at midnight and got this animation. Have played it many times since :)

I thought it was pretty cool too, nice of Apple to add little touches like this.

Adam.

It’s had this for a couple years I believe. Also on your birthday you should get one similar with balloons.

I just happened to look down at my AW3 a few seconds after midnight - my daughter saw it, too. It was fun and celebratory. I am rarely up past midnight these days, and even more rare that I am looking at my watch for something other than time or exercise.

It's been like so for a while. Honestly I've been using watchOS since version 1 and I could swear it does this every year, as well as the balloons, but can't be sure. Surprised to see this thread given that I take it for granted 😅 Anyhow this year was odd as it did not trigger at midnight like usual.

Did the watch do this in previous years? I never noticed this until now.
Kind of cool.

If you check out "Notifications" it will say "Happy New Year (Name)" - hit that and you should see the fireworks.

That’s kinda cool.

It did happen last year. My only complaint was that after you watch it, you can't clear the 'notification.' It has to go away on its own.

What was nice became annoying for the reason you stated.

Since I purchased my first AW in February 2019, I missed it and had no idea when it would vanish.
