I find that my Apple Watch S3 does a great job at displaying my heart rate during activities such as running and cycling but less so with HIIT and strength training. I am wondering whether I might get better results with the latter two if I paired a heart rate strap with my Apple Watch. Does anyone have any experience of this? If so, how did you get on?

Yes, HIIT training can often constrict the tissue in the wrist causing inaccurate reading. Just get a BT strap and pair it.

I use a Wahoo strap and it pairs automatically with the watch as soon as the strap is connected. No need to use any app. The strap provides consistent readings during running, kettlebell swings, whatever. The watch fails for me unless I’m relatively stationary. Hopeful for a better sensor in the new watch, but probably just a limitation of the optical vs electrical technology.
