I have an apple watch SE 1 st gen that is running the latest software version, I have various health issues, and it's super important to track my heart rate. my gripe with my SE is that 1) the hr sensor is really slow and takes a while to load, and 2) I can't wear it at night cause of the battery. so my question is would it be worth upgrading to the series 8? I can't find much information on whether the sensor is better in the newer watches. Thanks in advanced

I had the SE, now have an S8. Fast Charging will be a huge help if you’re having trouble keeping it charged. It’s also possible that your bather battery health is low and that might be degrading the experience. I wore both watches 22-23 hours a day.

I don’t believe the heart sensor has changed significantly, but it is a newer version. For both watches, I find I need to be sure to strap it quite tightly to get a good reliable read during exercise, but that initial read when opening the heart app - I can’t compare the watches but it doesn’t feel faster on the S8. Maybe it is, but if it is it is subtle, and sometimes it will still miss while I exercise.

I would ask your doctor about the suitability.

Also, you probably know this, but the watch doesn’t constantly record your heartbeat.

1) Apple Watch doesn't measure HR constantly when not doing workout, only at intervals, so it will have to do some measurements first. That will not change with an upgrade. However you will gain EKG. You could consider having a workout running (and ignore the circles) at the cost of battery-life.
2) Can the battery not last through the night or what is the problem. One advantage of buying a new Watch, is that with two watches, one can charge while you wear the other.

Apple Watch is not a medical device, so you might consider an alternative, if you have a serious health issue.

I am sitting with an Apple Watch 4 and 7 and there is no noticable speed difference. In fact the s4 feel speedier right now, but has also just been freshly restored.
