Apple Watch issues seem to go a little deeper...

I know that "Unlock with Apple watch" does not work with iPhone 13 but there seems to be something else:

I seem to be unable to set up a long PIN on my Apple watch. Whether I try doing it from the watch itself (I never can switch to long PIN, it always just gives me the keyboard for short PIN) or phone (the phone just makes the watch give me a short PIN keyboard) - it seems like if you reset the watch (non-upgrade) this is impossible?

iPhone 13 Pro, Watch 6 with Watch OS 8.

Watch OS 8 is buggy plain nd simple.... compilations stop working like Micky actually disappearing and reboot needed. Time is not refreshing correctly again reboot helps for a while etc. I have Watch Series 6 as well.

to me Watch OS 8 has been the worse release in a while.

Do you have a long PIN on your iPhone? I’ve had a 10 digit code for years on both…

Yeah; I had a long PIN before.

It is somewhat strange: when I originally transferred from iPhone 8 to iPhone 13 device to device (over the air) - I was able to set the PIN properly on the watch as a long PIN.

Yesterday, I returned the iPhone 13 and got the 13 Pro... restores the iTunes backup from a PC, then had to reset the watch... paired with the 13 Pro and - no way I can set the long PIN...

So you do not have this set by chance? On the watch app on the phone?

I do. But on the watch, after it was reset, if I try to set this to long pin, I just get asked for my current pin and then only get offered to create a different also short pin.

On the phone, if I use this, it just tells me to go to the watch and then see the above.

So, just to be 100% clear - your settings on the watch app and the watch reflect the screenshot above? Simple passcode NOT on?
If so, I'd contact Apple ... but one of the things they'll ask you to do is to unpair/re-pair so you could give that a try

No… simple passcode is on and I cannot switch to complex one for the watch.
 
Hi, have the same problem with the simple passcode. Everything got transferred except the apple watch didn't sync to the new phone (it was still on WatchOS 7).

I decided to unpair/pair to the new phone but before I did, I upgraded the watch to latest OS 8. Pairing the watch to the new phone was fast but when I entered the passcode, there's no option to change to a longer code. When I try to turn off the simple passcode option, the "enter passcode" would pop out and then it would ask me to enter a new passcode.
 
I just switched off simple passcode to setup a long code. watchOS 8 and iOS 15 on iPhone XS Max. Is that an issue only happening on latest iPhone?
