Dear Apple Watch Experts,

I’m considering buying my mom a celluar Apple Watch SE 2, but she is still using an iPhone 7. Is there a way to pair all the apps from her iPhone 7 with the SE 2? My mom will need to use Apple Pay and make calls.

Thank you!

Mike

I was in your situation earlier this year. I was able to find a brand new Apple Watch 7 in stainless steel for $150 on clearance at an authorized reseller. Since it was BNIB it had a compatible Watch OS for my iPhone 7 and it worked great. It even has full Applecare.

beware buying used if its got a recent software update then you’re back to square one with iphone 7 personally wouldn’t bother because the iPhone 7 is becoming rapidly unsupported for using with recent smartwatches. its a vicious trap of the apple ecosystem. also buying a used series 7 you got to check battery capacity ive just put one in the draw has it’s capacity rapidly went from 82% to 68% in 3 months and requiring 2-3 charges per day . as the software updates get richer in features the older models kind of begin to show their age. safe bet series 8 and a iphone 11 or greater. iphone 7 is going to be your problem sooner or later. i understand budget restrictions but with the iPhone 7 in the frame it will be a case of new phone soon

No, don't buy a used one, unless you can verify it's still running WatchOS 8. You can't downgrade them. Buying brand new is the only way to know for sure.
