I checked out the older threads on dead Apple Watches, but they didn't seem to have the same issue.

My partner's Apple Watch Series 6 just up and died yesterday, screen went out while she was wearing it. Tried a reboot, and then a forced reboot, no dice. Put it on the charger for a few hours, nothing. Left it overnight and came back to a still dead Apple Watch. I've since put it on my Apple Watch charger (the chargers are the same ones that came with the watches) and will leave it there for the day.

Are there any other steps I should take before I say this watch is done for? I'd take it to an Apple Store, but the closest one is 2.5 hours away, so that's not in the cards.

Thanks.

Does the watch still show as paired on the phone? That could be if it’s the screen that went dead
Do you know what the battery health was? If it was low, it could have died…

Not seen A lot of posts here with those symptoms but it is possible the watch just died, it’s an electronic device after all

In addition, I would like to ask the following questions. Has the Apple Watch been submerged or worn to swimming or scuba diving 🤿 in water 💧 a lot? Was screen separation or abnormalities in the LCD evident even with the always on display on, prior to this incident?

If you have AppleCare +, feel free to contact them directly at getsupport.apple.com and request them a box to mail in the Watch. If you have a spare Apple Watch handy and do not wear it as often, unpair it from your iPhone and pair it to their iPhone. They can wear it while the broken one is in the repair center. All data from their Apple Watch Series 6 will be transferred automatically to the other Apple Watch as the iPhone captures a backup periodically.

Just checked, it is no longer paired to the phone. Now though, it’s occasionally showing some green lines on the display if I jiggle the watch while on the charger.

Try the restart process on the watch:

That was the first thing I did, no luck.

Yes, she’s a competitive swimmer and has been using it in the pool for years. Applecare has long since expired. It’s a pretty old watch.

starting to sound like it might be time for a new one…

So from your previous reply it sounds like there is some life left, however, still hard to say if it’s the display, the battery or possibly water related.
I agree to let it go and get a new one, 9s should be available at good discounts if you don’t want the 10

Upgrade time. Btw has your partner unpaired the Apple Watch in any way? Black Friday is on the horizon; look at Walmart for doorbuster deals on Apple Watch Series 8, 9 and they also have SS models as low as the Apple Watch SE price… also check Amazon and add some to the holiday wishlist.

No, she wouldn't know how to unpair it.

Yep, I've got the feelers out for an upgrade. Too bad, because she needs a new iPhone too and we were gonna do the watch next year.

I was able to get my Series 7 SS model this April for $200CDN brand new (about $150USD), but that took a lot of patience...

Wow she has never unpaired an Apple Watch before? It’s easy to do it, just have a backup done prior to doing it.

🤯 really? My S6 i got for $240 a month after yours via a Walmart doorbuster deal. The Apple Watch Series 8 stainless steel models went on sale with the same price tag 🏷️ in august-September which a day or two later it was posted, sold out so quickly! Here is a link from Best Buy’s Canadian store that has Apple Watch deals: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/collection/apple-watch-on-sale/240139

Not sure if there’s a Walmart in that country but they do have a few of the same things that we have in the states.

Thanks. We do have Walmart, but the locations in my town rarely have the best deals. The pitfalls of living in a small town of only 100k people I guess.

We used to have another retailer that carried Apple products, but they were absorbed by Best Buy, so even less competition now, hooray.

Looks like I'll be visiting Stocktrack.ca more often now. It's a pretty useful site that keeps tabs on retailer inventories and price adjustments.

Interesting. I also seen these stock and price drop trackers before- I heard of the US version of the website you mentioned on a television news show but I forgot what name it was- I typically use google and tech radar to find Apple Watch deals. I only ordered from BBY for cyber Monday or Black Friday for an Apple Watch Series 1, which I proudly wore for seven years until the screen separated and battery life was drastically reduced, leading to upgrading to my new Apple Watch Series 6 gold SS. I even offset the cost by also receiving grants, which can also help with paying for materials- whether it is for a Mac 🖥️, a new iPhone or an iPad. As long you really need it for your everyday needs. It helps with  tax, y’all.

There are still a lot of ways to grab an Apple Watch ⌚️ for less. If it is difficult to find an Apple Watch in new condition at the Canadian tech stores, big box retailers, give Amazon a shot. I am neutral on this as the markdowns for the newer models or the stainless steel/Ultras are not as big as Walmart’s, but this website also houses varieties of Apple Watch bands, MagSafe cases for your iPhone and also other tech needs. B&H is also another great source for Apple products in new condition, mostly towards Macs and iPads but also offers Apple Watch deals once in a while, not sure if it dispatches internationally though.

Regarding the support case, had you also looked at resources such as Apple Authorized Service Providers? They may not be as top notch as an Apple Store but they can provide support services at the same (or even above and beyond) for your Apple Watch. Best Buy has this as Geek Squad.

Yeah, we do have an Apple authorized service provider in town (one of them closed), though I don't really go there anymore now that the techs I knew left. I can always bring it by and see what they can do.

I might just suck it up and get the Series 10 directly from Apple on Black Friday. She wants to choose the green watch band, so it'll just be easier that way. Plus Apple will likely offer the gift cards again, and I'll put that toward my future Mac Studio (if and when it comes out).

Try swinging by one and get that Apple Watch Series 6 checked out. Let the techs know that there is LCD failure on the screen and the Apple Watch still charges, and only shows green lines while charging on Nightstand mode.

Didn’t you find any great discounts for Black Friday for Apple Watch S9/10? I understand that the lake green bands have to be on a custom model, but she can get the Apple Watch with a color of your choice first then get a band to go with it. What color is the Apple Watch Series 6 that is experiencing the issue, and its size? A 40mm Apple Watch Series 6 can use the same bands as a 42mm S10.

She's got the blue watch and band. So far the Series 9 watches are only about $50 less than the Series 10. But we haven't had any Black Friday sales yet.

Blue Apple Watch Series 6 aluminum?! That’s a very popular flagship color for that series. The Apple Watch Series 7 had a lighter blue designed to match the blue iPhone 13/ iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 14. I only known one colleague of mine in the past who had the blue Apple Watch Series 6, they had a 44mm GPS model with deep navy band. I have a series 6 but the gold stainless steel that is yellow gold, and it did come with the deep navy band. Interesting they offer it to third party retailers with this combo… most of the time the gold stainless S6 comes with a green band, or a Stone/Starlight band depending on the series.

It’s still quite early, I had started Black Friday deal hunting since well before Halloween. I am only eyeing on getting a new iPhone 15 Pro for Apple intelligence and also AirPods Pro 2 for this year. Carriers offer Apple Watch offerings for cellular models only, but if you plan to swap carriers in a month or two i would not recommend it as the Apple Watch models with cellular service are locked to a specific carrier. The ones you buy from Apple or big box stores like Walmart are unlocked 🔓. I saw BBY started doing Black Friday but no huge markdowns for Walmart yet (in the 🇺🇸). https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/41mm-s8-graphite-ss-w-milanese-loop-249-walmart.2434823/

Thanks.

I pay USD4/mo for AC+ on my AW6.

Last month, I purchased new band(s) from AMZN (ordered one, but received four) . . . thoroughly wet-scrubbed the device prior to the replacement.

It went Bonkers for a day, or so, but settled-down into expected operation.

I almost claimed a Ticket, but She has decided to operate like She did, before 🤷‍♂️

Did you get things sorted?

I got a pretty decent deal on a Qnap NAS a few weeks ago. Now I'm hunting for a couple of drives to go in it.

Our current carrier doesn't support Apple Watch and we're locked in so that wouldn't work.

So the watch went bonkers when you put the new bands on?

Ours isn't sorted. Still nothing despite being on the charger for a few days. May take it to the local Apple tech and see if they can do anything, but I think I'll just get my partner a new Series 10.
