Apple does not list battery capacities for the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models, but MacRumors has discovered this information in a Chinese regulatory database today, and we have outlined our findings below.

Apple-Watch-Series-9.jpg

According to the database, which only provides Apple model numbers instead of product names, the 41mm and 45mm Apple Watch Series 9 models appear to be equipped with 282 mAh and 308 mAh batteries, respectively. These capacities are unchanged compared to the equivalent Apple Watch Series 8 models, which makes sense given that Apple says the Series 9 models have the same 18-hour battery life as Series 8 models.

As for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, it appears to be equipped with a 564 mAh battery, which is approximately 4% larger than the 542 mAh battery in the original Apple Watch Ultra. However, Apple says the Ultra 2 has the same 36-hour battery life as the original Ultra, likely due to it having a brighter display and other new features.

A recap of the Apple Watch battery capacities listed in the database:
Apple WatchBattery Capacity
Apple Watch Series 9 (41mm)
282 mAh
Apple Watch Series 8 (41mm)

Apple Watch Series 9 (45mm)

Apple Watch Ultra 2

New features for both the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 include brighter displays, a faster S9 chip, a new "Double Tap" gesture for interacting with the watches without touching the screen, and more. Both new models have been available to order since Tuesday and will begin arriving to customers and launch in stores on Friday, September 22.

MacRumors also found the same battery capacities for what appears to be the iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max as were reported earlier today. We were unable to find a listing for the regular iPhone 15 battery.

I think it's just the best compromise. Some people like myself have small wrists and I have no issues charging my watch every day or two... its become second nature. I truly appreciate what it can do given its size. Best of all, my watch is Apple Watch 4 from 2019 and its battery health is at 86 percent, still getting a decent runtime. It's really a testament to how good the batteries are that it's still going strong after 4 years of daily usage.

The Verge has the phone battery specs too: https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/15/23874884/iphone-15-pro-bigger-battery-capacity-increase
  • The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 4,422mAh / 17.109Wh battery compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 4,323mAh.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro has a 3,274mAh / 12.70Wh battery compared to the iPhone 14 Pro’s 3,200mAh.
  • The iPhone 15 Plus has a 4,383mAh / 16.950Wh battery compared to the iPhone 14 Plus’ 4,325mAh.
  • The iPhone 15 has a 3,349mAh / 12.981Wh battery compared to the iPhone 14’s 3,279mAh.
Was reported earlier this morning.

I personally don’t even need an Apple Watch lasting more than a day like I do not want my watch to suddenly die on me in the middle of day X. I rather charge it before bed and start the day at 100% without any worry of it making it through another day
That's what I do. Wearing it to sleep would be uncomfortable anyway. Charge overnight, and wear until I get home at the end of the day. 12 hours is more than enough for me.

I remember when my garmin was the smartest watch on the market.. as for the ultra, the altitude tracking is cool. But gps altitude readings are unreliable when you're flying. Too many variables to get an accurate reading that an altimeter cant do already.

If I did get one it would be to track sleep metrics. In that regard battery life is important if you wish to monitor your vitals and track your sleep. There are other devices out there that also integrate well with the apple ecosystem, but the apple watch makes life easier. Might trade my iPod touch in for one 😆

Fast charging does make wearing an AW feasible.

However, an upgrade to battery life is much needed -I consistently have to charge it two times per day if I’m doing sleep tracking and 30-90 minutes workout tracking.

What we need is the Ultra’s 542 mAhs in the standard watches.

Now that would be a reason to upgrade!

I agree. I actually have two watches. My fancy one that I wear out and about, and my house watch that I wear sleeping/showering etc. and just hanging. One of them is always ready to go! I never run out of battery.

the extra 22 mAh on the Ultra 2 justifies my upgrade from the Ultra

For travel I would love the iPhone to have the ability to wirelessly charge an Apple Watch. If you forget your phone charger or it (or the cable) breaks or is lost while away it is pretty easy to source a replacement. Now that we have the USB-C standard hotel reception could probably lend you a cable (at worst to be plugged into the USB port on a TV to get power) or many shops will sell such a cable but getting hold of an Apple Watch charger at short notice is a much more difficult proposition. Knowing that in an emergency one’s iPhone could act as an AW charger would be a really nice thing to have in my opinion.

Series 7 and it's at 88%. I have optimized charging turned off.

This is exactly why I love my Garmin Fenix 6X Pro. Battery lasts about 3-4 weeks!
Ok, maybe not that fancy and smart as an Apple Watch but more than enough for me.

Wasn’t that a feature of the new iPhone 15-line?

Ah, I'm not alone then. I got all excited when the woman presenting the non-Pro iPhone 15 mentioned it could charge Airpods and Apple Watch. I then rushed to these forums to create a thread expressing my surprise that Apple hadn't made more of a big deal of this in the presentation and that none of the reporting seemed to have focussed on it.

Sadly, from the responses I got it looks as if all that was being talked about there is that the power lines on the new USB-C connectors on the iPhones are bi-directional so, as well as using it to plugging your iPhone into a charger to charge it up, you can also plug your Airpods case (using a suitable USB-C cable) or your Apple Watch charging puck into the USB-C port on your iPhone to charge the Airpods or Apple Watch from the iPhone. Apparently the same capability has been available for a while on the USB-C ports on iPads for a while (maybe always).

I suppose it's a nice "why not include it?" feature since I assume it adds pretty much no cost or weight and takes up no extra internal volume in the phone but since you still need to have a charging puck with you if you want to charge your watch from your phone it does nothing to address my forgot/broke/lost my charging puck scenario.
