Hi

I wonder if someone on here can help me!

I've sold my Apple Watch on eBay. The seller has received it and he can't pair it because it is asking for my iCloud password even though I reset it.

What it appears is Activation Lock is set on it. I thought I was clued up on Apple security but clearly not.

Looking on Apple's support website it says I need to remove it from my Apple ID however I have signed in and my Apple Watch isn't listed.

I'd be interested if anyone else has seen this and knows how to fix it. Of course Apple support is closed at the moment.

The Apple Watch is still appearing on my iPhone and I do have the option to unpair it but I don't want to do that in case that makes the situation worse.

To make my troubleshooting even harder, all of Apple's online information seems to be down at the moment (Order history, AppleCare details and everything else I need to look at).

Worst case scenario is I presume I can give the new owner my iCloud password to unlock it then he can pair it with his iPhone.

I have 2FA enabled on my iCloud settings so they couldn't do anything malicious if I do have to give them and obviously I will change my password after its sorted.

Unless anybody on here can help me?

Thanks in advance

- D

Before selling (too late now) you must unpair the watch from your iPhone in the watch app. That will automatically restore the watch to 'new' state thus removing the activation lock.

You will just have to give your iCloud password out then reset it once they are able to set up the watch.

Thanks, I thought that would be it. Think the guys OK he's been very reasonable through eBay chat. I had no idea I'd to do that.

I can't really moan that it's a faff, it shows how secure the Apple Watch is.

Thanks again

had a similar problem with a watch i bought on ebay. they had apple support, who ended up calling me on the phone and telling me how to un-pair it with there phone, only took a few minutes and i was up and running. the seller was really helpful and good thing they had apple support.

Yeah, until Apple fixes the bug that prevents removing the lock via iCloud after resetting the AW, everyone should resort to actually unpairing it from iPhone before selling or giving it away.

I'm on the other side of this. Bought watch off eBay. Came activation locked. Seller claims he removed it from Icloud but i still cant activate it. He emailed me today that Apple will unlock it in 3-5 days bc he provided them with receipt. I am not sure if its true. Seems like long time. Unlocking iphone only takes hours nowadays, I am sure legitimate icloud unlocking requests are far more rare

Something similar happened to me. I had the buyer send me back the Watch. I had to re-pair it, remove it from my iCloud account, and unpair it.

Even if you trust him make sure you change your password after they're done getting it unpaired. ( I know that's a given, but still. )

I am saying since the Watch by itself does not shows up, and it is linked to the phone, I would try removing the phone .... I am not saying it is the right thing to do , but before giving my details I would try that first....

Go to iCloud.com, sign in with your apple ID and password. On the top right corner, click on your name and go to iCloud settings, you will see your apple watch, click on that and select Sold or gave away this device.

I have the same problem.. I sold my Apple Watch, the activation lock was not on, the clock was unpaired and reseted, the new owner installed it with is own Apple ID.
I bought for myself the S2 Apple Watch and I paired with my Apple ID.
Problem is every time I go to check my device list on my Apple ID, the old watch stills appears on the list, with the name of the new owner, I delete it from the list and as soon as this person have the clock online, appears in my list of devices again.
I went to iCloud.com/activationlock and shows the clock has not activation lock on and can be activated by other Apple ID.
The clock when online doesn't appear in the list of devices in Find my iPhone
This is making me crazy and I don't know what to do anymore.
Any help?

Here is a screenshot , Im sorry it is in Finnish :)

You've been taken. Apple has no way of removing an iCloud lock from any device without the owner's iCloud password. Only the owner can remove an iCloud lock, not even Apple has that ability. They can only instruct the owner on how to do it themselves. There is no such thing as a "legitimate iCloud unlocking request". If the seller refuses to take it back then file a PayPal claim.
