New AWU2 running current software on phone and watch. The location use is WONKY. After a lot of foling around the location shows up in the weather to display on the face with the accurate temp and day range. The GPS location data is not available when trying to create a waypoint.

In the Compass app, the Latitude and Longitude are ---.------. Scrolling down from the Lat/lon, the only compass waypoints are those created by the watch, i.e., Parked Car and Home. Creating a waypoint is IMPOSSIBLE. It looks like you can, but when you hit the green check mark on the top right of the screen, nothing happens. Not suprisingly, the trackback feature is not operational.

Glad I am not lost in the woods...

I spent a huge amount of time fooling around checking the settings. Unpairing and repairing. Checking numerous settings for location services in every available setting location on the watch settings on the watch, watch settings on the iPhone application and settings of the iPhone itself.

Yesterday I spent an hour with "text" support. The agent was very slow to reply to my comments and answers to his questions. Bottom line is after an hour, he said it appeared unfixable.

This morning, I spoke with a live agent at apple. Shared screens, went through everything. She was happy to "fix" the replacement of the "--" temperature display with my local temp. YAY was shortlived. I am now looking at a watch face that says it is "--" temperature here.

I told her you spend a lot of money on a cool electronic gadget. It should bring you some joy, happiness and AT LEAST functionality. As of right now, the watch has brought me frustration, sorrow and no functionality. I want to wash my hands of the frustration. She said I had to make an appointment to return the product. How about Sunday afternoon - the first available for my local store. What a joke.

My two generation old watch never gave me any trouble.

Can you create a waypoint? Is my problem because of a defective watch or software that was rolled out without appropriate testing?

Please post here if you are running 10.0.2 and are having no issues OR are having the same issues. I think mine has a defect and will probably return it. I am not sure I will replace it with a new one given how much frustration this has caused. Other than this, I like the larger size and appearance. I was happy with my old watch and probably will continue with that until the next generation or maybe ditch the smartwatch for a dumb watch that won't cause me any irritation.

I realize you're not there yet, but please let me know how topographical maps work, once you get this working. Good luck.

A feature I didn't know existed. I live next to a wilderness area. Used the map display, scrolled over to the area and zoomed in. Shure as heck, topo lines appeared. A cool feature I am not likely to use. I would love to see the current temp, however, which is now showing "--"

PJ,
I am LOSING MY MIND WITH THIS.
I was so looking forward to taking this hiking, ordered it as soon as I could, and now it's just not functioning.

I am assuming that the lack of location is part of the reason that both of us can't "finalize" or save the waypoints when we click the green checkmark? I have attached a screenshot of how the issue looks on my end.

Have you made any progress on your end?
Sam

No dice. The waypoint features don't work and I just checked. My local temp is "--" again.

I don't think that all the watches are like this. If they were, I would have to believe that there would be more talk.

Just returned from Apple Store. Watch was defective. Returned. Repurchased a second watch. After all the time fooling around with the first one, the second one setup in a flash. Experience, earned the hard way... In any case, the first thing I checked was to see if the new watch showed Lat and Lon. It did, even inside my home. If your watch is experiencing the same problem, TAKE IT BACK. The temp also showed up immediately, I never saw the "--" that was commonplace on my first watch.

SAM MINE WAS BROKEN. NO FOOLING AROUND WAS GOING TO FIX IT. MY ADVICE IS RETURN IT!!!!!!

I still have to test the replacement, but the lat/lon and temp showed up as I would expect.

Had the same issue and it looks like this is the same bug that was stopping the weather complications & app from loading correctly.

I resolved this by resetting Location and Privacy settings on my phone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Location and Privacy.

I can now set waypoints and Long/Lat is being updated in the compass app.

Pain in the ass having to set up location preferences for all my apps again but at least it’s work as expected!

I had the same issue described here with the Lat/Lon not showing on the watch, and this corrected it (on two watches). Thanks.

Same issue here. Following worked for me:
1) Reset Location and Privacy settings (on iPhone): Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Location and Privacy
2) start Compass app on iPhone and allow location access
Remark: step 1) only didn’t worked (and drove me crazy…)

Had this same problem and these steps fixed it. I didn’t notice the missing lag/long values in the compass app at first, but hitting the green check icon to save a waypoint wasn’t doing anything.

1) Reset Location and Privacy settings (on iPhone): Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Reset > Location and Privacy
2) start Compass app on iPhone and allow location access

Hi, I have a similar problem since WatchOS 10 update.

The elevation displayed by my watch does not always correspond with that of the iPhone, there is sometimes a difference of 30 meters! (I don't know how many feet that is, I'm French sorry)

WatchOS 10.0.1 did not resolve the issue. It's very frustrating to have features that don't work for such an expensive watch!

Before the update everything was working fine ...

Here's what Apple Support told me this morning:

"Okay so with checking into some things apple has heard reports of the issue and that it is currently under review. Apple doesn't yet completely understand the issue. Therefore, Apple can't promise a solution or predict when an investigation will finish. The results of the investigation may come in the form of an update. So we do encourage you to keep your watch up to date."

Not super helpful, but a little bit of info in there :/

I have the same problem, sometimes the altimeter gives negative heights when my city is 10 m above sea level, support tells me, after a diagnosis, that the clock sensors work well.

I think we should report the problem to Apple, it would work perfectly for me before watchOS 10. It must be a software bug.
Have you contacted support?
