I am lucky enough to be getting some exclusive hands on time with both of the new iPhones and the Apple Watch (iPhone thread here) so post your specific questions you want answered and I can do my absolute best to report back and answer all of them. Obviously I won't be able to say much about the battery life because I won't have it all day but I can ask my friend how it has been going for him. I'm giving you a heads up so ask away!

edit: sorry guys! watch did not make an appearance today, only the iPhones! They're actually in the other room right now so I'll be posting about that but sorry to get your hopes up Lol! No beans were spilled about the watch unfortunately...

1. Why do they put company interests first (such as tying the watch to the iPhone for functionality), instead of user freedom, needs and enjoyment, re: GPS, ANT+ etc

2. Having a separate App for each new function would create a bloated and inefficient interface. Apple have a 'sports' model which should then have typical sports functionality as standard, which of the following features commonly found on older sports watches does the AppleWatch ship with?

Running Features:
Virtual Pacer (compares current pace to target) V02 max estimate
Recovery advisor
Race predictor
Running dynamics
Accelerometer (calculates distance for indoor workouts, without need for a foot pod)
Personal records

Cycling Features:
Compatible with Vecto
Multiple bike profiles
Bike speed/cadence sensor

Running & Cycling Features:
Heart rate monitor
Virtual Partner (train against a digital person)
Virtual Racer (compete against other activities)
Auto Pause (pauses and resumes timer based on speed)
Multi-sport (changes sport mode with a press of a button)
Auto multisport (switch sport modes with 1 button press)
Advanced workouts (create custom, goal-oriented workouts)
Pace alert (triggers alarm if you vary from preset pace)
Interval training (set up exercise and rest intervals)
Heart rate-based calorie computation
Calculates calories burned
Training Effect (measures impact of an activity on your aerobic fitness)

Swimming Features:
Swim metrics (stroke type, stroke count and pool lengths)
Stroke recognition
Pool lap recognition
Open-water swim distance
Swim workouts
Activity Tracking Features:
Step counter
Auto goal (learns your activity level and assigns a daily step goal)
Move bar (displays on device after a period of inactivity; walk for a couple of minutes to reset it)
Sleep monitoring (monitors total sleep and periods of movement or restful sleep)

Outdoor Features:
Hunt/fish calendar
Sun and moon information
Tide tables
Area calculation
Custom maps compatible
Jumpmaster
Golfing Features:
Manual pin positioning (tap and drag flag on green for precise yardage)
Measures shot distance (calculates exact yardage for shots from anywhere on course)
Yardage to F/M/B (distance to front, middle and back of green)
Yardage to layups/doglegs
PinPointer
SwingTempo (measures backswing and downswing times as a ratio)
TempoTraining (audible tones convey ideal 3:1 backswing to downswing ratio)
SwingStrength™ (measures how hard you swing)
Tracks stats (putts per round, greens & fairways hit, average distance)
Save locations (mark course points of interest for future reference)
Sailing Features:
Virtual starting line
Countdown timer
Tack assist mode
Autopilot remote control
Automatic wireless MOB activation
Built-in barometer and tide tables

Avionics Features:
Worldwide airport database(s)
Altimeter with adjustable baro setting
3-axis compass with HSI
Multiple time zones with Zulu/UTC
Wirelessly receive flight plans

3. Could an Apple rep genuinely recommend replacing a true sports watch from Garmin, Suunto or Timex with Apple's 'Sport' Watch and can they keep a straight face while doing so?

Does it have a digital compass?

Not sure what access the OP is getting but at this point I doubt there is much to see. I bet many of the Apps are not even in alpha yet. I bet most are just demos of what the Apps are most likely to look like. This is probably why NO ONE was allowed to play with all the Apps and have unlimited access at the event. Most probably weren't real Apps and even if they were they would crash if not done in an exact way.

I'd like to know more about the metal rings around the sapphire on the ceramic back.

We know one of them is a skin conductor to make it usable/unusable for payments.

Is one the others a temperature sensor?

Seeing as it charges with induction, I'm guessing the magnets for the charger are on the inside of the ceramic.

Why did they put metal around the sapphire!! ;)

Someone can probably already answer this, but are straps interchangeable between collections?

I really like the look of the WATCH Sport model, but would want a leather or metal strap for it. I presume it's possible, but I'm not sure.

Yes, except size (38mm and 42mm).

Thanks. An Apple Watch Sport with either a modern buckle for 38mm or a link bracelet for 42mm seems a good combo then.

Sizes are not interchangeable. If you get a 38mm Watch then you must use a 38mm band. However I think Apple stated all bands will be available in both sizes.

Treadmill.

1. I want to know will it know the distance, the steps, calories burned if I run on the treadmill?
2. Swimming. I guess it's safe for swimming pool but will it register distance etc.?

I understand that, but on their site it only shows the modern buckle for 38mm, and the leather loop for 42mm. All others seem to come in both sizes.

Therefore if I get a 38mm, I'll go with the modern buckle, but otherwise I'll go with the link bracelet for the 42mm as I don't really like the leather loop.

Of course, the modern buckle may come in two sizes and just not shown on the website, but I doubt that.

AW works with a TouchID iPhone for set-up, ApplePay authentication, etc.

But will AW also work with a TouchID iPad [iPad Air 2, say] for set-up,
ApplePay authentication, etc., since it's the same principle? Thanks!

Yea you won't be swimming with it. Apple doesn't even recommend showering with it on.

A VERY important question, no one has asked yet

Will there be an APP or can 3rd parties create their own watch face's

Or can we only use & mod the watch faces Apple have designed?

I would imagine a LOT of resentment if owners could only use 'Officially Approved' watch face designs.

Knowing Apple however, I personally would not be surprised if they do not allow this, they wish to keep full control, and you will only be allowed to use official Apple approved watch faces.

Different from a Nano?

Several years ago I, along with others, purchased a strap and attempted to use the Nano as a watch. Unfortunately, due the extreme battery drain the display was limited, as I recall, to about 30 seconds before sleeping. So, my concern with the :apple:Watch, was the reference to "raise your wrist to view ...". I hope this does not mean that the display sleeps until you raise your hand.

I realize that the Nano was not originally designed to be a watch, so I'm hoping that the :apple:Watch can be continuously displayed. Perhaps I've misunderstood or missed an answer to this question from the keynote or the Apple site and hope that someone else can clarify. -Thanks

The screen turns on when you flip or raise your wrist..

During the keynote Cook said he couldn't wait to see where developers take this. In the ABC interview Ive mentioned 'millions' of combinations. You won't get that from the 12 watch faces Apple designed. If they're opening up the watch to apps (and opened iOS to 3rd party keyboards and widgets) why would they restrict watch faces to only Apple designed ones? This isn't Steve Job's Apple anymore.

Blood Pressure?

Does the Apple Watch measure blood pressure natively ?

On the Sep 9th ABC Nightline David Muir said it would but he is not Apple...
