Apple White

I'm looking through the Apple product lineup and there are hardly any plastic, white products anymore.

MacBook, Mighty Mouse, Airport

that's all

will these too eventually change over to anonized aluminium?

Just you wait. The white is now being reserved for the new Pro products once those pesky MacBooks and other accessories have run their course.

I hope so....that's the way the keyboard's gone, so the mouse will have to follow suit.

I do wonder about the apple cables though...will they last forever as a reminder of the first iMacs?

Weren't the cables for the first iMac black? I thought the puck mouse and such had black cables?

But the first iMacs were translucent colors (blue at first I think). I don't think the iMac became white until the G3s no?

The first iMacs were G3s. They had a 'Snow' G3 iMac, which was white, and then with the G4 'Sunflower' model, they went all white and clear acrylic. With the G5, they went opaque white, until this new aluminium model.

Sorry, I meant G4. However, the G3 iMacs only had a small amount of actual white on them. Most of the color was found in the rear. Wasn't this at the same as the colorful iBooks? Clamshells weren't they? White wasn't the dominant color at this time for either line; a rainbow of colors accented by white seems to have been the pattern. I think a true white iMac first came about with the G4, as white was the primary, not secondary, color.

However, I'm not sure how I feel about the new iMac yet. I haven't been able to see one in person, but something about the white seemed fitting to me.

Actually, one of the later G3 models was white—the part that was usually different colors was a translucent type white. And yeah, that was around that time—they coexisted for two years or so, then the white square iBook came out in '01 and the G4 iMac in '02.

But, I still remember the first iMac add with what's his name from Jurassic Park, Jeff Goldblum. That ad was revolutionary.
