Apple win whacks Android resale prices

"Since the $1.05 billion verdict Friday — which found that Samsung infringed on six Apple patents — customers of Samsung have been dumping their Android products on at least one major resale site. Gazelle.com reports a 50% increase in Samsung smartphones over the past three days, which has led to a 10% drop in prices for those devices. “Consumers seem to be jumping ship,” says Anthony Scarsella, chief gadget officer at Gazelle.com. “We expect this trend to continue, especially with this latest verdict."​

Wonder if this is a direct result of the trial or merely a coincidence...

There's nothing good about this entire situation. Court cases are extremely negative by nature. Negative energy breeds more negative energy. It's a bloody shame that Apple chose to take this path.

After all, there are other equally effective and far less acerbic approaches. The more I read, the more it becomes apparent just how seriously Apple is damaging the industry.

If they continue, as it seems they will, targeting Google directly will really reek havoc. At what point does Apple back off & deal with this in a way that's not so destructive.

Like a Great White, Apple seems further energized by the blood in the water.

The case has nothing to do with it. People are just getting ready for iPhone 5, Windows Phone, and/or upgrading to a newer Android device.

It's always hard to resell an Android device simply because there's always a new model every three or so months. Plus, the carriers will always give you a much sweeter upgrade deal. Most people would rather sign the contract than get the phone at $300+.

At what point does Apple back off...

Going by Job's "thermonuclear" statement and given how Cook is an operations guy mainly focused on profits (see the recent Apple store news), I don't think they'll back off but will rather go hardcore on this.

The real question tho, is how Google and their Android partners will react to this. I don't mean in terms of legal action or counter suits. But rather in their development of Android and devices. I for one would like it if Samsung's defeat ends up encouraging the OEM's to adopt stock Android as opposed to coming up with their own versions of it like Sense and TouchWiz.

Erm they did try to settle it with samsung before the case and during the case.
But Samsung did not want to pay anything like every one has to pay to each other.

Apple just settled with Googlerola in Germany and is paying Frand.
