So, Apple is replacing my computer, for free. It's not like they're doing it out of the blue, though - it took 2 repairs for them to realize that the computer I paid 3000 dollars for is a piece of junk. It usually takes three repairs before they decide to replace your computer, so they knocked it down to two for me.

That being said my

Powerbook G4 1.67/15"/1gig/128vram/100gb

is being replaced with

MacBook Pro 2.16/15"/1gig/256vram(Yeah, it comes standard, I know)/120gb

I paid for a top of the line computer, so it's only right that they're replacing it with another one. Let's hope that this one turns out better.

Oh, and they gave me a 100gb firewire hard drive, so I can back up my data.

I still don't think that this comes close to making up for it. But whatever. It's a start.

Wow. What a follow-up by AppleCare. They gave you a MUCH faster laptop, and an external hard drive. That definitely goes above and beyond.

Well, read my post from yesterday. Apple wiped my hard drive after telling me that they wouldn't. Again, I know that they can never guarantee that data is going to be safe, but this one tech guy actually DID tell me that my data wouldn't be erased. That and my computer was eligible to be replaced because it had been sent in for repair three times in one year. (Well, two, but the third had just been arranged). So it's not like they were nice and gave me a new computer. I was kind of owed one.

Just make sure you work that "burn DVD/CD first" routine into your photographic workflow.

Congrats on the new machine.

Wow....it looks like you made out a bandit on that.

You should be happy about the new computer. Yeah, you lost your photos, but I'm sure you're going to go to Europe again, so....and again, congrats. AppleCare hooked you up big time. I don't know any other computer company that'd give you that much of a deal. This kind of makes me happier to know I bought that three year AppleCare Complete package. :)

His hard drive went kaput on him and he lost EEEEVVERRRYYYTHHHHIIIINNNNGGG!!!!
Remember, it happened twice.

But Apple decided the bad HD karma floating around this customer, also required a free external HD for backups. :p

Well good for you ShackleBolt, but I hear ya on it doesn't really compare to the data that was lost.

I am living in England right now and I have accumulated over 800 pictures that are irreplaceable (from Germany and Spain too) and if Apple were to just erase them I'd be pissed.

Totally lame what happened to you.

Congratulations on the new wonderful laptop, and my condolences for losing the irreplaceable pictures of Europe, must be a pain. I can't even imagine the feeling :(.

And off topic (sorry for semi-ruining your thread): If your computer breaks down three times in the first year of owning your computer, without AppleCare, will they replace the computer? Or will they just continue to replace parts until the warranty runs out or you buy AppleCare?

They don't replace computers for breaking down 3 times in 1 year. It has to be 3 times for the same problem over the lifetime of the warranty. I have a friend who had to wait 2 years to get his defective iBook replaced with a MacBook because even though he sent it in 6 or 7 times it was only on the 6th or 7th time that it was being repaired for a particular problem that had occurred twice before.

Having said that if you get a nice person dealing with your problem for the 3rd time they may not worry about what I have said above.
