Hello,

I recently got a Mac Pro 7,1 and hoped to continue using my current Apple wired keyboard. it was working fine on my Mac Pro 5,1 a few minutes earlier but when I plugged it into the USB A ports nothing happened, no caps lock light or anything. I tried resetting the SMC with keyboard plugged in and still nothing. Did anyone encounter anything like this? I don't have another wired keyboard to test it but is this common? Does the new Mac Pro not work with wired keyboards or did I just get a dud?

Wired keyboards work great with the 7,1. I use one myself.

I'd test with other USB devices and see if maybe you got bad USB ports.

The ports work with USB thumb drives. What keyboard are you using?

Same here, using my 5,1 wired keyboard since day one - no issues. Have it wired directly into one of the I/O USB ports (not via hub).

Using a wired Logitech G910 and no issues, plugged into the back. I also have a wired Apple KB that I use from time to time for the control keys, plugged into the top right port. - Also no issues.

Thanks for the replies. I tried to troubleshoot the issue further. I borrowed an older Apple USB keyboard (the lovely kind with the Univers Italic keycaps) and it worked fine. I then plugged in my keyboard again. Nothing. I plugged in a USB extension cable and then the keyboard into that. It worked. Go figure. Unsure why that is but greatful I don't have rely on a wireless keyboard anymore.
