Apple Word???

Hey, For some of you this might some like a stupid question... but one I needed to know before purchasing my imac...

Does OSX have a program that is comparable and easy to use like microsoft word without having to pay any extra or get boot camp???

Yeh, it's called Microsoft Word for mac.

If I recall correctly, iMacs come bundled with trial versions of MS Office for Mac and iWork, which contains Pages. Macs also come with TextEdit, which is a free bare bones style word processor.

You could try NeoOffice (a port of OpenOffice).

NeoOffice is good, but a bit slow to open. Some people here don't like the look of it either.
AbiWord is small and fast, but the last time I tried it it didnt' display my fonts correctly.

Both are free

TextEdit is extremely simple - think of it as notepad with a few extra features.

I'm a big fan of TextEdit.

It has a lot of functionality that a lot of people don't realise.

And it switches between plain text, rich text and rich dynamic text nicely.

Each of the apps mentioned here has its own strengths and weaknesses. What do you want to do with it? Just simple letters, reports, etc...?

your right. Either I just really sucked at spanish or they changed the languages. Got to be the second.

Sidenote:
I use word v.x from say 2000 or 2001? This version of word has more than enough features for me and dont feel like dropping 150$ every couple of years. I might try out ABiWord, thanks cassie.

I second docs.google.com. Amazing, and you can do group stuff just like their spreadsheets.

That slowness in NeoOffice has been fixed in the latest patch. It opens up pretty quick now.

I can't say that I've noticed any quicker opening.

It's worth noting even a basic text editor in Tiger will have a spell checker and dictionary/thesauras.
