Saw this job application. I wonder if this is a brand new product category or an addition to an existing line? If it is brand new I wonder what it might be.

Behind the scenes Apples extreme cash hoard, allows them nearly unlimited freedom.

Any smart company would constantly be scouring the talented engineering and design teams they employ for new ideas.

Thus, I'm not surprised. The one uncomfortable truth Apple carries presently is their eggs are all in one basket. A basket that's about to wear out, soon. Then what?

I'm hoping for Apples sake they can pull a rabbit out of the basket. Failing to do so will be to witness them get flattened on the freeway of life.

Doomed? No Flippin Way!
Neutered? Absolutely!

Fasten your seat belts, devotees, this might get ugly.

I think Apple maintains a secret "talent stew" that engages engineers in open-ended fantasy product research and development just to see who rises to the top of the mayhem. Then they are harvested and sent out for further assignment.

I think this is the closest thing to the truth. They hire a bunch of engineers to try to get a proof in concept product and see if it may or may not be something they want to produce.

These hiring notices really don't have much information to say apple is going to be doing x,y or z in the coming year imo.

It is interesting though because most of the open positions reference existing product lines. And this one is especially interesting because it references the camera team.

The thick of it

I doubt this is a car. It sounds like another personal electronic device. Apple already has an extensive team (supposedly) secretly working on the car, and they've been actively pursuing relationships with automotive manufacturers to implement it. I think Apple would be more interested in the software and interface aspects of cars than dealing with their actual fabrication.

I'm really curious what this "new-category" is. Is it just new to Apple, or is it new to the market as a whole?

Probably creating prototypes of ideas that the upper management comes up with to see which ones actually work and can be made into something useful. I doubt there is any specific new product that they are hiring for.

I think this is pretty close to the truth. A lot of new Apple products never heave the prototype stage. But all of them teach Apple valuable lessons that can br brought to the products that do make the retail shelves. A lot of these designs are used (I reckon) to work out who is the best for each project. I say best as if you're not already amazing, you do not get hired by Apple. But the extra amazing ones get the better projects to work on.
