Apple just sent an email entitled "OS X Mountain Lion is here. To go with our best notebooks yet."

They mention that the MacBook Pro with Retina Display starts at $1999, it actually starts at $2199. An uncharacteristic move from Apple.

The imminent 13" Retina MacBook Pro base model price is $1999. You heard it here first.

Or they were taking into account the education discount on the rMBP.

I seriously doubt the 13" rMBP would start at $1999; that's too high.

EDIT:

Just looked at the email again and it appears that all the prices take into account the education discount.

EDIT II:

Added screen shot. The same email came to both my Gmail and Hotmail addresses.

I'm looking at the email, and mine has it correct, "15-inch starting at $2199". Nowhere on the email does it even mention the price "$1999" for anything.

Interesting.... Mine is the same as the screenshot above. Could be that they fixed the error, but that would contradict the idea that they used the student education discount for the base price.
