Apple X apps unresponsive and force shut down not working??

Hi, my mom has an issue with her Iphone X. When you try to click on any of the apps, it does not open or do anything, but any other buttons and slide gesture works. I also can not force shut off the phone no matter how many times I try. The shut off slider does not appear.



What's going on and how do I fix it? My only option right now is to wait for the battery to drain or get it fix at Apple.

Have you tried a force restart?

Here’s the instructions from Apple:

• On an iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
