I have an iMac G5 here at work that was purchased almost a year ago... I recently had to take it in to the Apple store for a repair, and found out that there was no Applecare service plan on it, despite the fact that my boss purchased one with it at CompUSA.

I have the receipt, and it shows that the Applecare plan was purchased (and lists a serial number for it)... but we don't have anything else. Were we supposed to get a box with Applecare info in it? How would they have even rung it up at the cash register without that?

I tried using the serial number to register the applecare agreement online (as the "agreement enrollment number"), but it didn't accept it as a valid number.

I'd like to get it resolved, since the computer is now very loud (fan runs constantly) after having been repaired, and the 1 year warranty will be up in a week.

Thanks for any advice.

Have you call CompUSA about this. I think they fix it there for you. I think

I haven't called CompUSA about the AppleCare yet... mainly I'm just wanting to know if I was supposed to receive something (a box, some paperwork?) about Applecare besides the serial number on the receipt.

Try calling Apple and have your Applecare serial number ready on hand.

Im sure they can do something about it. CompUSA really cant do anything for you at this point

Hehe, I was on the phone with Apple as you posted this... they were able to find the Applecare enrollment number based on the serial number. The person on the phone was very helpful and got it all set up, so now the Applecare plan is active and the warranty lasts until March 6, 2008.

Problem solved. :D

Yeah, like you said, you always need to active the plan after purchasing at a retailer. They do not do it for you...

what prob happened, is CompUsa make close to nothing on the iMac meaning they have to sell the apple care to make anykinda margin. And they were prob out of it rung it up by the SKU and forogt to mail it to you. I worked for Comp for alittle while and they did it all the time. I would call compusa and tell them the situation im sure they will get you a apple care box out to asap.

well whatever you do, dont bring in ur mac to compusa if u need it to be fixed.. they suck lol..

I agree, I would find the closest Apple store with a genius bar...
