So, my MBP had the typical case warping that a lot of people are talking about. I called AppleCare last friday, and they shipped a box to me immediately. I shipped my machine back to them monday and ... *gasp* just got it back today o_O. I got it back after just one day!

They did a great job fixing it, only one little scruffy looking spot, hardly noticeable.

Anyway :p Just happy to have my MBP back, and pretty damn excited about how well I was treated by Apple :)

Cheers,
Alex

eenu:

I had the buldge above the latch, the warp above the CD bay and the display casing warp (where the machine wouldn't close all the way). They fixed them all. :)

Edit: Yes, I'm in the US. Tennessee :)

I had the warp on my core duo MBP that i sent it for repair 3 times but Apple failed to fix it even after changing the housing. I'm assuming some internal component was the culprit.

The warp occurred in such a way that if you look at the MBP from the front, you'll see a smiley face. The warp even caused the trackpad to bulge - if you ran your fingers across the pad, you'd feel a little 'hump'. The trackpad also lost sensitivity over time. Apple claims to have replaced the trackpad but that didn't resolve the problems either. The USB ports were also acting weird, not having enough power to charge even an iPod. The logic board was replaced.

After sending it in for repair 3 times over a span of 3 weeks, Apple decided to replace my MBP. But i must congratulate Apple on a good job getting the laptop shipped/returned so quickly, however, the speedy returns did not yield any results to the existing problems.

To the OP, congratulations on getting your laptop repaired properly. If you do face any more warping issues, i suggest you test the trackpad/usb ports to see if they are working right. Cheers.

Applecare won't send out boxes in the UK anymore which is a major problem for me being 5 hours from the nearest store, and it takes a month to be fixed everytime my macbook goes in.

But I rang about the battery issue on monday, and within less than 24 hours I had a brand new battery on the doorstep. Now in that regard, I was stunned. That almost makes up for the 2 months i've spent without my macbook :D

I have to agree (generally). I had slight warping (where the keyboard/palmrest had started to separate from the case on one side). Dropped it off last night at 9pm, had a call at 10am this morning to say they had replaced the keyboard/palmrest assembly and it was ready for collection. Not bad! :D

Of course it would be even better if these things didn't develop such defects to begin with, but then how many gadgets these days are without issue?!

I'll bet if this was Microsoft, you wouldn't even get a box at all and you'd probably have to wait 2 weeks.

I <3 Apple.

with the xbox at least microsoft has EXCELLENT customer service. I can't say much for the build quality (I'm on my 4th xbox 360) but whenever I call telling them it's broken i have a box the next business day. Two times I've called on a monday and gotten a new xbox by that friday. kudos to microsoft customer service. They might make ****** software and unreliable hardware... but in my experience they've made up for it with their service.

I don't have Apple Care. Would this be covered under the regular 90 day warranty? And would any yellow tinting or dead pixels too?

You mean the initial one year limited warranty?

I do NOT have the extended AppleCare, and they fixed mine.

If there is something trouble-some about your MacBook Pro that you want fixed, call Apple and demand it. It's truly that simple. If the person you get the first time doesn't set you up, hang up and call again. After-all, you just shelled up big bucks for that baby, it had better live up to your standards and expectations, don't you think?

Cheers mate,
Alex

Is there any actual difference in the quality of care during the natively offered 1st year warranty and the extended Apple care warranty which takes it to a total of 3 years?

For instance, if a notebook broke down within the first year, would it have made a difference had i purchased the extended Apple care from the beginning?

Thanks.

No, you are treated the same.

AppleCare only extends your warranty, it doesn't add options to it.

Super. So, i can always get the Apple care warranty just when my original warranty is going to expire right? Or is there a specific time period from the original purchase that i am required to get Applecare?

Thanks.

After you purchase a Mac, you get an initial one year warranty for parts and labor. You have up to one year from the date of your purchase (or whenever your warranty started) to purchase the AppleCare Extended product.

That extends your product warranty and phone support to a total of three years.

Hope that helps,
Alex
