Not sure how long this has been offered but, If you choose to pay for AppleCare+ monthly instead of all at once, you can keep coverage until Apple cannot supply an exchange or parts to repair your phone/device. The overall cost is higher to pay monthly but, if your going to keep the phone/ device longer than 2 years it could be worth for some...

I only plan on keeping it a year. I’m honestly debating on not getting it at all. I want to get it but I literally never use it. I’ve only ever broke the screen on one iPhone, my 6s+, and was lucky enough the Apple replaced it for free. I like the idea that the insurance is there should I need it but hate that I never use it so it feels like throwing money away. I might just get the monthly for now and try that.

I'm also only keeping my phone for a year, so monthly AC+ isn't necessary for me. I purchased a 3 year SquareTrade warranty 2 years ago, so I have 1 year left on that which I'll be using on my new phone. With the increasing AC+ and other warranty prices, I'm no going with AC+ except for with the iPad Pro. With the Max Pro, one incident would cost $300, whereas out of warranty coverage is $600. It's not much of a savings for a "what if", so I would rather just insure myself going forward instead of giving even more money to Apple.

You can transfer square trade to another phone?

Yes, I did last year when I upgraded. I contacted customer support through chat and asked them to transfer to my new phone. They just asked me to upload a new receipt. Their pricing structure has changed in the last 2 years (a lot more expensive) and I'm not sure if they made any other changes like with transferring your policy.

I’ve never had AppleCare+ either and never needed it. I usually upgrade every 2 years but, considering how much the high end iPhones cost starting with the X a repair requiring a replacement can cost $600. I’m hanging onto my X for another year which will make it the first iPhone I’ll use for 3 years.. I’m banking on it lasting as long as my backup 6S which has been absolutely a solid phone since 2015.

The 6s was a long lasting phone. I recently traded in my old 6s Plus that I was keeping for a backup and it still worked good and wasn't too slow.

It also applies to old devices that AppleCare+ has just expired on.

Paid for a full 24 months when I bought my 2017 12.9 2nd gen, expired the 1st. When I went online to check coverage it allowed to me re-Insure the device for $7 a month. Pretty happy as the screen replacement cost on the iPads is ridiculous, like the safety net.

I’ve never used Square Trade, have you ever had to file a claim? Just wondering how they are, if you’ve had any issues. My sister used them for years but recently had a bad experience.

Extending the time is good business for Apple and bad money for many, many people. The cost of AC+ becomes a large cost of the phone, which degrades and depreciates overtime.

if one is going to keep the phone more then a year, it makes more sense to self insure.

I've only bought from Square Trade once and haven't used the warranty yet for the 2 years I've had it. They recently updated their prices and moved to a monthly plan and comparing to the 2 year AC+ plan they're charging over 50% more, so I wouldn't recommend them any longer just due to their price.

I appreciate the heads up thank you. With kids in the house I definitely like having insurance especially when phones are $1000 nowadays.

Another vote for AppleCare. Square trade used to be good but has burned me a lot recently. Prices have increased and they use non-Apple replacement parts. For example they use third party screens that will make you phone lose features such as True Tone and auto brightness, as well as not being as high quality as Apple parts. Not worth it anymore.

Update:

I was able to extend my Apple care month to month after my 24 months was up.

Same with my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen. Third parties have gotten worse and Apple has gotten better, no reason to insure with another company now.

I was thinking of doing the monthly installment.
never had Apple care and would’ve loved to get on the iPhone upgrade program but I may just hang onto this phone for 3 years that’s what I need to do.
