AppleCare on LED Cinema Display?

Hi everyone.

I have a 2012 Mac Pro I purchased December of last year, and I purchased it with two 27" Apple LED Cinema Displays. When I bundled AppleCare with the purchase, it obviously covers one display, but I also have one apparently that is not covered.

These are my first Apple displays, and although I have rarely seen an LCD/LED monitor have issues I am wondering if I should get the AppleCare extension on the other monitor since they were $1k USD each new. I believe the extension is less than $100.00 USD. They haven't given me any issues thus far, but the one year warranty on the second display will be expiring soon, so I had better move on that while I can if I am going to.

The best thing to do it contact apple to see if both are covered. Something you could also use is the apple warranty check - http://bit.ly/9N03LI - and simply enter the serial number and that'll tell you if its either covered under the original warranty or the extended applecare.
 
If your LED display is still not cover with AppleCare better to get AppleCare. My friend's Apple LED display had smudges at the corners and luckily he had AppleCare and Apple replaced the screen. If I am not mistaken, LG is the supplier to Apple's displays and iMac screens
 
As I've said before on these forums. I have been using Apple products since 1986, and I have never bought AppleCare for any component over those years, nor have I needed it. However, when I do buy anything over the web, or in a Brick and Mortar store I always use a Credit that offers a one year extension to the standard warranty for a product, but again, I've never had to use it.

Plus, I always modify my equipment, Video Cards, HDDs, SSDs, RAM, PCIe cards which may or may not kill the warranty on my Mac Pro anyway.

The only Apple item I own now, that I feel may fail prematurely is my Macbook Air, some of them, with Toshiba SSDs, have been failing at 15+ months out.

Also, I've never owned an Apple monitor, always finding them too expensive.

Sorry for being so wordy, but, if it were me, if your monitor is working well now, I'd say the heck with it, and keep enjoying your equipment.

I love Apple but I have definitely used a fair share of Apple care within the last few years of ownership; and not all of the issues were user error.

If you feel it's important to you, I'd go ahead and get it. If it buys you peace of mind, it's not money wasted.
 
I think it would buy peace of mind to a degree, as it was all a large investment up front. I also feel that this displays have their days numbered since every other product has been Thunderbolt for some time, and fully expect them to reach end-of-life as soon as the new Mac Pros are announced and not be available after that point. Since I plan on using this machine for the next few years it would be good to have coverage on both of them I think. Although I agree with Lou that the chances of using it are low, it does buy peace of mind.
 
id get it from bhphotovideo for $99.00 because the apple cinema, thunderbolt, and iMac 09'-11 are all susceptible to those nasty smudges on screen

its dirt that gets inside the lcd matrix..inside the layers of the lcd itself not just on the lcd, no wipes will fix it
