Recently dropped my iPhone X and shattered the back.

This would've cost $649 but the whole device replacement was $99 instead.

You make a good point. Does AppleCare+ adding theft protection change your opinion?

(Asking because it did for me. I was already convinced but it made AC+ more worth it due to having dealt with stolen iPhones before).

Or be careful and have your $1000 phone in a case. Not saying that AC+ is a waste of money but it's very much a case of weighing up how likely it is of you breaking your phone.
This is the correct answer. The value of AC is highly dependent on the individual. I've bought over 40 Apple products over the years that were eligible for AC. I never purchased AC for any of them. There was never a situation where I could've used it. I've saved $1000's by not buying AC. My daughter on the other hand, there hasn't been a device she's owned where she DID use AC.:D

As always, insurance policies depend on your lifestyle.

If you use your iPhone without a good protective case and walk around in Baltimore, then AC+ may be worth it. For many people who are careful with their property, AC+ isn't worth it.

With regards to purchasing extra insurance, on any item, it's a gamble. As a former car salesman I can tell you, there's no right or wrong answer. The added insurance is great to have it if you need to use it. I use AppleCare+ because you never know. Doesn't matter what case is on your phone, or how careful you are, accidents can & do happen. It's come in handy for me in the past, but that's just me.
