applecare question

if after the initial one year warranty on my ibook goes up and i dont buy applecare, but later on i decide that i want to, am i fresh out of luck? there wasn't a clear answer on apple's website...

You *must* buy Applecare *before* the 1 -year complimentary warranty is over, or you cannot. Otherwise, people would wait until the computer broke to buy Applecare.

Yes this would seem to be pretty evident.
Perhaps this is why Applecare service is such a PITA.
If your puter lasts a year without a hitch it should continue well for a couple more.
Given how picky the service people are ie. declining coverage for small dings or nicks. The extended service seems not worth it. Extended service contracts typically aren't worth the money.

Yeah it sucks. It's not even possible to get them to check your machine to see if it's fine before you could pay for an extention. But still, it's fair enough if you think about it.

I too always turn down extended warranties, for every new purchase EXCEPT computers. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending how you look at it), they have always more than paid for themselves. I'm on my fourth powerbook screen...

applecare

never hurts, you can ebay computer applecare fairly easily and get a good price on it. thats what i did and saved 200 on my powerbooks applecare.

I agree extended warranties are good on computers. Every computer I didn't buy extended warranty on, broke.

I bought my iMac on May 9th 2005 without applecare! if I buy applecare now, will it expire Jan 29th 2008 or May 8th 2008!!! I assume its May but I might as well ask....

Also, if I buy from apple.co.uk is it sent by post or is it like an activation key like QT Pro?

New Macs come with 1 year hardware warranty and 90 days phone support. Buying AppleCare extends the 1 year hardware warranty to three years and the 90 days phone support to three years.

Your AppleCare will expire on May 9, 2008 whether you buy it anywhere between May 9, 2005 to May 8, 2008. I wouldn't wait until May 8, 2008 to purchase it. If you want it, buy it now. The price can only go up if you wait.

I'm on my 3rd laptop for the same $2200. And this one needs a repair. I have to remember to take it in before March when my warranty expires.

The funny thing is, that one before this and this one that I use now, all have the plug in slot for power broken. My MacBook Pro won't have that problem.

It's the little things that matter the most.
