Applecare Question

Hi guys, I've just bought an iMac 27" with the i7 processor.

Included in the offer was free Applecare and Parallel Desktop 5.

Now the iMac is superb and it's my 4th Mac, I've never had any problems with Apple's computers so I'm wondering whether I really need AppleCare.

Should I just sell it? I'm wondering what could go wrong with my iMac, it sits on a desk all day and isn't at risk like a MacBook would be.

Should I cash in or is it worth keeping?

Keep It! I bought it when I bought my i7. You never know if something will fail, and AppleCare covers the entire machine for 3 years.

I have to use AppleCare on my MBP:
Battery
LCD
HDD

Definitely, worth having as a backup, just in case.

Well, I'd say it depends on how long you intend to keep the iMac. The Applecare will give you an extended 3 year warranty opposed to the standard 1 year basic warranty.

Now, if you plan on selling the imac before the 1 year warranty expires then I'd say go ahead and sell the applecare. However, I suspect you might be wanting to get a little more mileage out of it and if that's the case, it would be worthwhile having the extended warranty, especially if it was included with your iMac.

I have been a PC user all my life and never ONCE bought a warranty for a desktop ( i never seen the point really ) but for a laptop, thats another story.

PC desktop are simple to crack open and replace/inspect issues.....The iMac on the other hand? Thats another story!

All-In-One electronics and PCs are more then likely to have problems..

Also, these things run HOT!!! I have a i7 iMac and WOW! that aluminum back really holds some heat. ( Bacon anyone ? )

Also, there VERY pricey! I was going to take a pass on AppleCare myself but really, these are way more complex machines then PC desktops and run hot and are ALL-IN-ONES. So i would suggest keeping AppleCare.

Also another awesome thing, I just bought a used Cinema Display locally, The lady had Applecare on it, the day i bought it, i noticed a HINT of yellow to the screen ( she didnt notice it ) i walked right into a AppleStore and they replaced the LCD no questions asked! Now thats what i call service!

So it really is a good investment.

Normally i am AGAINST any type of add-on warranty that costs money..but depending on the item and price, sometimes its worth it..

If it were something like a MacPro i might consider differently, but for an iMac i say stick with the AC.

YOU BOUGHT AN i7. DO NOT SELL IT.

I wouldn't know what to say with an i5 since i5's are going to become standard soon, but an i7 is like using a Ferrari.

Would you not insure an Ferrari?
