Ok so i just got an email from Apple saying that my 90-Day protection thing is about to expire on my Macbook Pro.
But Apple has a One year warranty on all their computers right? I was originally planning on extending my service one year after i bought (about the same time as the warranty runs out. But now i'm confused, could someone please explain to me the difference between AppleCare and their Warranty?

what do i get if i upgrade now/what will i miss out on if i dont?

thanks

Your hardware is guaranteed against manufacturer's defects for a full year from purchase date.

The 90 day portion of the warranty applies to free phone support.

So if you need to phone AppleCare from this point on, you might be charged per phone call (unless there ends up being an actual hardware issue).

If you wish to add the extra two years of AppleCare then you must do this within one year of purchase. AppleCare covers your Mac for three years in total. If you have a desktop Mac it will give you on-site support. Also, you will get free telephone support for the three years.

My opinion of it is that it is worth doing. Also before you commit yourself, you may already be covered by your credit card company, some of them provide three years of warranty on any purchases.

I definately reccommend AppleCare, especially with MacBook Pros. They seem to be more problematic that previous Apple notebooks.

As other users have said, you don't have to buy it now. If you decide to get it, you just ahev to buy it within 1 year from the time you burchased your MacBook Pro.

Ok so the coverage wil be exactly the same if i upgrade within my warranty, with the addition of free phone support?
There's no improved coverage over my warranty if i buy?

I'd say an extension from one year to a three years is an improvement. :p

P.S. The three years includes the "given" first year of coverage.

if you don't buy apple care, you will have a yr of warrenty, and 90 days of telephone support, starting from your purchase date.
if you buy and activate your applecare, you'll get 3 yr of warrenty and 3 yr of telephone support, from your purchase date, despite whether you get it the day you buy your machine, or the last day of the year, you don't get longer warrenty by wait til the last day of your 1-yr warrenty.
