Well, I sent my cosmetically flawless Macbook in to Apple for repair. There wasn't a scratch on the thing. This morning I get it back. The casing is scratched to hell. Somehow I go two months without any significant scratching. These guys have it for two days, and the thing looks like it's years old.

I'm pissed. Not that I plan on selling it, but they killed the resale value of this thing. Not to mention, now I have to carry around a Macbook that looks like ****.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Will they correct this issue, or will they give me the finger if I complain about it?

It's also very easy to do...

Remember that you are not the first person to have this happen to you and Apple knows that. Just explain and say that you take care of your computer and that you're very disappointed that the repair facility scratched it up like that and wonder what they can do about it.

I think you'll be fine.

Not with that attitude he won't...and "ruined" would imply causing it to not function, they just scratched up the thing....hardly ruined.

You guys need to get off your high horse. When you send your computer in to get fixed and it comes back in the condition mine did, you can tell me what is ruined and what isn't.

If you were in my position, you'd probably think differently.

If I were in your position, or if I were you rather, I'd grow a pair, call Apple, explain to the person (who had nothing to do with your MacBook getting scratched, so no point in yelling at THEM) your situation, get a repair/replacement, and move on with your life, not post a thread on a Mac rumors board crying "what do I do...they scratched my laptop!!!" because nobody here has any ability to do anything about it.

is a state of mind.

The brilliant thing about being a Mac owner is that we *ALL* Think Differently....except we all think differently in the same way...that is, we all buy Macs, but really we're all VERY different...just kind of different in the same way, but different.

The point is not that you are angry - you are upset and rightly so.
The point is that you need to moderate the attitude before calling Apple back. Lighting a rocket under them will not get you results.
Calm, polite and persistent will.
Do what you need to do to get to that space before calling.

The thing is, if you phone someone and are instantly aggressive and demand stuff. You're going to annoy the person on the phone and they'll think "F**k you buddy, I didn't mess up you laptop don't have a go at me" then they'll only do so much to help.

If you phone and are pleasant and polite, they think "Poor guy, he sent his laptop in and some twunt scratched it all up. I'll sort him out with a new casing ASAP."

The end got confusing

I don't recall saying that I was going to call and tear anyone a new one. I simply asked whether anyone had dealt with a situation such as this one, and I end up with people like Moviecutter telling me how to speak pleasantly (kind of funny when you read his).

By the way, I've already called Apple and they're dealing with the situation. Obviously, I'm going to have a few more days without my Macbook, but they're going to replace the casing.

Come on, if you took your new car to the dealer for service and it came back scratched and keyed you would certainly be singing a different song.

Maybe if you consider the surface level aesthetic as a component in the overall function of the product...but I certainly don't share that consideration. That said, unless I'm the one scratching or defacing any product, I would expect that my product returns in the state in which I sent it.

I would agree 100% with this statement.

I had to deal with this same issue, scratches to the case and screen, and each time the phone support was very understanding and had no problem authorizing a repair order to correct the issue. I would make sure to call them as soon as possible.

Done, and done.

It's all under control.

I remember your posts definitely implying otherwise. Dead issue now, but the members were responding to your initial agressive posts.

remember to be polite about it.
easy for you to say.
