on the 27th apple received my 17inch macbook pro because of heat issues. it's been a week and the status is still showing up that it's on hold because of having a part on order. has anyone ever sent in their notebook in for repairs. what's the turnaround time like? does it usually take this amount of time for a part to come in?

The depot just got my machine in today, I turned it into the Apple store on Saturday early afternoon. They forgot to ship it out on Monday.

My status as of this morning:
Diagnosing Product (03-Aug-2006)

Looks like I may be in luck... changed steps.

Repair In Progress (03-Aug-2006)

Hopefully they can get it shipped out today after all, then I can get it tomorrow from The Apple Store. I would have gotten it back already if the Store had shipped it on Saturday like they said they would instead of Tuesday.

My PowerBook was gone ten days for a keyboard replacement. It varies widely depending on part availability.

My iBook was in for 45 days and I just got it back. I am working on filing a complaint about it. It's not cool not having your working tool with you when you need to do work.

I've only had one instance of Applecare and that was to replace my Powerbook's screen when it developed those white spots (back in like March of this year).. and between the time that the empty box arrived on my doorstep and the time the PB was back on my doorstep there was only a lapse of 3 days. :D

..they must be awfully busy these days fixing everyone's MBs and MBPs..

And to continue my day's status:

Product return pending (03-Aug-2006)

Hope it reads shipped out later today, crosses fingers.

It appears the turnaround time is really good right now. I also wonder if there are various repair depots by regions.

My iMac's still sitting in a dark corner in the back room of an Apple store awaiting the replacement parts (screen, logic board, inverter, though they don't know which one(s) they'll need) that were ordered three weeks ago.

"Should be here Monday or Tuesday" the genius said. Suppose I should have asked which Monday or Tuesday.

All I know is that it's ridiculously slow. Apple also cost me a cordless phone, which I threw against the wall after talking to Applecare.
Should they pay for your anger management classes, as well? :p

just teasin. ;) :)

Usual turnaround time for depot repairs in my experience are 2-3 weeks. (Except my experiences with Sony. They like 1-2 months.) Of course, everything depends on parts availability.

CALL APPLE RIGHT NOW.... get a rep and start to DEMAND they get the part,
or you may end up waiting forever!
I needed a new hard drive and they said it was "on order" and didn't know when it would be in....not acceptable....I was firm and did not back down!
They broke first, went to a worldwide database, found one and overnighted it....got my iMac the next day....you have to get on their case!

is a state of mind.
I had a display problem. Box arrived Thursday and the machine was picked up the same day. It was back on Tuesday. I live near Apple HQ, but the repair was done in Houston. Can't complain. That was quick.

just so everyone knows (those of you thinking about sending in your MB to applecare, anyways), I had mine sent in for the discoloration and it was picked up yesterday at 4 o'clock by DHL, and is already pending return.

i had this same kind of service the last time i sent something in to applecare, so i will never again worry about sending something in. now we'll see if they scratched it up... ;)
