Hello,

I was wondering if AppleCare+ eligibility starts from when you buy an iPad or does it start when you first set up and activate said iPad? I recently bought one and haven’t opened it yet, so I wanted to know when that countdown starts.

Thanks! 🙂👍

It's got to be date of purchase. It would be a nightmare for Apple to track it by your behavior after the purchase was made.

OK, maybe not...

Do you mean the 60 days leeway to buy AC+? Afaik, that countdown starts when you first set up and activate the iPad. At least that's been the case for me buying from Best Buy, Amazon, etc. Not sure if you buy directly from Apple Store.

If you bought AC+ at the same time as the iPad, then it's based on the purchase date.

I believe the device is auto-enrolled from the date of purchase, put the iPad serial number here and check when AppleCare expires and you'll know if it's been activated already.

It can't be date of purchase because that would mean that people with backordered MacBooks are losing months of AppleCare. I think it starts when you receive the item, not when you register it.

It's when you first turn on the machine, connect to the internet and/or sign in with your Apple ID. Regardless of when you purchased AC+ or ordered the machine.
