how does this work? After 1 year/11 months/29 days you smash it and take it to an Apple store and they give you a new one? What if they don’t have that model available, do they give you a credit towards a new purchase? Seems like a no brained if that’s the case!

sigh...

but of course Apple isn’t loosing any money on the deal and 9 time out of 10 they get a refurbished version of what they have.

They will order. You go back in like 2 days.

I ended up dropping a plate of scrambled eggs on my iPad 12.9 this morning (not deliberately), breaking the screen. :( The genius bar assured me that the $49 is for a new iPad, not refurbished. It'll take a few days to order the replacement. The whole process was really smooth and great.

This Apple care+ is not available in all their markets, is it? For example, I don’t think it is available in India. Though I stand to be corrected.

Every iPad comes with a one-year limited warranty and 90 days of complimentary telephone technical support.1 With the AppleCare Protection Plan, you can extend your coverage to two years from your iPad purchase date. You’ll get direct, one-stop access to Apple’s award-winning telephone technical support for questions about using your products. And you can also get repair coverage for your Apple products through convenient service options. (https://www.apple.com/in/support/products/ipad.html)

This is what it says on their site.

Yes Apple care and Apple care + are different types of insurance.

Canada (as far as I know) has AppleCare + for iPhones/iPads/Watches. but not for MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Which is also too bad!

Wow! Apple Care prices have rocketed. I purchased the 2013 Mac Pro within 60 days of its release. The Apple Care price for the ~$5,000 system; $174 (through B&H).

I purchased a Mac Book Pro (~$2,000) during the thanksgiving holiday and the price for Apple Care; $379 (through B&H). I didn't buy it.

To be as colloquial and articulate as possible; WTF?!

By way of comparison, I have not, don't or will ever buy an "extended warranty" for anything that I own. However, Apple Care is the best thing that's ever happened. By this I mean access, knowledge, response, clarity and relevant information. I almost feel as if they're in the room with me, serving me a drink and providing a light shoulder massage.

Dare I not buy it this time?

How is B&H to deal with, namely buying a computer tablet? They seem to have the lowest prices with their no tax deal, and they are offering an extended return window through feb. 1st right now. But in the fine print it says computers can't be returned if the package has been opened. What kind of a return policy is that!?

I've bought a couple of devices from BH, two 12.9 2'nd gens. Very good experience, customer service is nice and willing to price match. Just make sure you actually want the device before you purchase it.

I buy everything photography and computer related from B&H. They have a physical (actual store you can walk into) and online presence. They have superior customer support (answers, service, specifications, recommendations, etc) and fantastic prices

In response to your question, I recommend contacting them directly. I believe that what you are reading wrt "returning" a computer is that once you buy it, you can't return it because you changed your mind. If there's something wrong with it, they will honor the warranty and provide a new replacement - check with customer service. I had a similar issue where the item was "special order." In the description, it stated the item was non-returnable. When I spoke to them, they clarified and provided the same explanation above.

Bought my 10.5" from them and have bought a lot of photo gear there over the years - they're great to deal with.

So then you can't return it all all, but if you say it's defective their inspectors will inspect it, and if they agree with you they will send you another one.

And then there's BestBuy:

[doublepost=1512322139][/doublepost]I called B&H. The man on the phone said that tablets are not computers and therefore they can be returned even if the package has been opened, which of course it would be, especially if it's a gift, which is what the extended return period is supposed to be all about. I asked him if that is in writing anyplace on their website. No, he can't find it anyplace. Of course tablets are computers and B&H even has them listed under "computers" and I think that's what the next man on the phone in their return authorization department will say if you try to return one. Are there any reputable places left to shop besides Costco?

22,

Fortunately, I have not experienced anything negative from B&H (purchase, return, refund). On the contrary, everything has been perfect. However, I can't say the same about the shippers (USPS, USP, etc), but that's not on B&H.

If you haven't already, spend some time on professional photography and videography sites. You'll see numerous positive and glowing reviews. I've been shopping with B&H for almost 15 years. There are other reputable electronics stores in NY, but make sure they have an actual walk-in store. And should you decide to visit the NYC Super Store, you're in for a surprise. They have everything.

Best of luck with your decision.
