I am about to buy a macbook pro. I am wondering if i should get Applecare or not. What do you guys recommend?
I heard on several news reports that most experts say that extended warrantys are a waste of money on most products except laptop computers due to the small size and heat they say to buy the extended warranty especially for apple computers

But even Consumer Reports has made a few exceptions. Last year, for the first time, the magazine found that repairs on some products -- laptop PCs, treadmills and plasma TV sets -- were common enough and expensive enough that a decently priced extended warranty would make sense. Plasma televisions, the magazine said, run hot and are still considered a relatively new consumer technology.

Anyone here actually bought their Applecare on eBay? Would like to know how the process works because in their description, upon winning I will need to provide serial number, etc.
I did, using the same process. What seller are you using? I purchased from this guy and everything went well. About a week after sending him my info, I received some paperwork from Apple in the mail. And when my PowerBook's inverter board crapped out after the initial 1 year warranty period, I had no trouble getting it repaired under AppleCare.
It's definitely worth it for laptops IMO. Laptop parts can be very expensive, and AppleCare will usually pay for itself after 1 repair. It did for me
if you buy it before then, you might be wasting your $. if it gets stolen or run over by a truck or you do something to void your warranty, that $350 would definitely help you buy another one.
so they gave me a brand new MBP (right when they were updated to the C2D!). They sent me my new computer and they refuded the $40 something dollars left on my old AppleCare agreement.
You have the 1 year and by paying for it now you rob yourself of that year.
