Applecare?

Hi guys,

I am just about to buy a Macbook Air - what are people's thoughts on getting the Applecare package?

It is just a matter of preference. I myself have it for my imac and have never had to use it. Lucky me.
Just ask yourself this one question. If it had to be replaced could you afford to replace it?

I am a big fan of Applecare. Extends the warranty for three years. I had to use it once on my Powerbook in year two when the speakers magically stopped working.

Compared to the price of the machine itself, adding the Applecare is well worth it just simply not having to worry about anything.

I always wait until I am close to the expiration of the normal warranty to buy it, just in case I decide I am not going to keep the machine.

When I have had it I have always been glad I did. Like clockwork my Apple laptops have needed a new logic board around 2.5 years in. Applecare has always turned the repair around in less than a week painlessly. Whenever this has happened to a winblows machine I have just replaced it.

Its definitely worth it. its about $150 - $175 on ebay and covers your mba for 3 years. if nothing happens in 3 years that's one thing, but if something does, any repair would definitely be more than cost of apple care.

Definitely worth it. I have already had to send my MBA in for repair once and plan to extend my warranty with applecare very soon. The main reason, for me is that the MBA is not something that I am comfortable working on myself. Desktop PCs, sure. Your average laptop, yeah. Not the MBA though. I normally never buy extended warranties, but this is different.

If you plan to keep the machine for the full 3 years it is a good investment. In the case of the Macbook Air I know I will be selling it before the 1yr warranty is up, If I planned to keep it longer Applecare would be a no brainer.

go for it! although i haven't had issues with macs, this is a rev. 1 product and there may be issues down the line.

Agreed...enjoy your mac and then buy applecare before the anniversary. Even if you sell it's a great attribute and you're protected if you keep it.

I have it , haven't had to use it yet (touch wood) I bought i simply because i see in my line of work that customers decline the extended warranty and then there machine dies about 1 month out of the standard 12 month period and there up to hundreds of dollars in repairs.

If you feel you want to be protected, then go for it. With my MB, I waited for the first year to try out the laptop and when I saw everything was going fine, I didn't buy the Apple Care. I now have it going 2 years strong without any problems at all.

bought an apple air - my first apple experience- was delighted. Unfortunately lasted 3 weeks. took it in for repairs. 2 trips and several phone-calls before they undertook to replace it. got my replacement just shy of 8 weeks from time I took it in the first time! I cannot see myself paying for such poor service.

I agree with the wait until the year's almost up to decide on applecare.
I've owned many apple computers since the powerbooks, and I don't think I've ever needed applecare at all. Granted there could probably be that one time you'll need it, but in my experience it seems unlikely.

so yeah wait up to a year to decide if you want to buy it. If you register your mac they usually will send you a advertisement for it when your years almost up so its pretty easy to wait and see if its a good idea later.
