ApplePay has been flaky lately. I can get gas at Meijer grocery but I cant go in the store and buy groceries with it. It doesn't work anymore at Target. Stopped working at Chick Fil A now. I use to be able to use it for all of those places. Though it worked at McDonalds this week. Anyone else experiencing issues lately?

ApplePay not working consistently.

Im using it on a S4 Apple Watch and my iPhone X.
Today for example:
I place an order online through Nike app on my iPhoneX with Apple Pay. $130 - Accepted.
Groceries at Meijer with Watch. $104 - Declined
I pull out my card (same account) $104 - Accepted.
I drive over to McDonalds and place an order from Watch. $6 - Accepted.
So I know the Watch works. I know my iPhone X works. But why the decline at Meijer? It always use to be accepted so why the change? Is it a Credit vs. Debit issue?
The same thing happened at Target last week. My Watch declined it twice and Regions flagged it for fraud. I try my card and again no go. I get a text message and reply that its me and then my card worked.

Same one that's worked before many times. Suddenly Im getting declines at Meijer, Target and Chick Fil A when making a decent sized purchase.
I wonder if retailers are changing up their rules on ApplePay with the release of AppleCard coming.
Just curious, but what Meijer are you trying it at? It's been solid in the Indy area for me (Discover and a Mastercard typically). I also happened to be on the north side and used it the Westfield Target without issue the other day.
Keep in mind that there's two kinds of contactless: EMV and MSD. Visa mandated that MSD should go away starting in April, but other card networks haven't set dates. Many stores have had to get EMV certification for contactless, so that's led to some temporary problems while things get ironed out.
Target had EMV contactless ready since they started taking Apple Pay, Meijer sorted theirs out it awhile ago.
I think the type of card and issuing bank might help for us to compare notes.
