Hey all.

I bought a copy of Tiger using my student discount from apple over the phone on Thursday afternoon. Lady told me that since it was before 1 PM, it would probably ship that day. I say ok, upgrade me to 2 day, as I'm using Puma, and hate it. She says ok. It ought to be there saturday. I say sure, I can only hope.

So I get my fedex/apple confirmation with tracking stuff, and it says it DID ship on thurs, but it's expected date is Tuesday at 4:30 PM. WTF? She said normal shipping is 3 business days...I paid $11 extra to expedite it. Why should I have to wait almost 4 business days? Or am I in the wrong? It's currently Sunday, and I obviously don't expect it to be here today...but what about tomorrow? Also, my tracking hasn't been updated since thursday. It says my copy shipped from PA as well...strange? Lady on the phone said it would ship from Cali.

So what should I do? Suck it up and face the fact that even though I paid for 2 day shipping, it may get here on Tues? Or call them up?

Call

I think you should call them at clearly state that you were guaranteed the 2-day shipping would've gotten it to you on Saturday. Since this did not happen you should demand a refund on shipping.

Jschultz,

Call Apple and tell them (or email them they have a form for refund shipping requests), that you were quoted delivery on Saturday, and it did not arrive after you paid for the upgrade and looked forward to it!

They will hopefully refund you the shipping costs.

You had a VERY uniformed CSR.

1) Apple's FedEx 2-day service does not deliver on the weekends. Ironically, if you had gone with the free ground service, FedEx Ground does deliver on Sat, and it is 2-day service from PA to IL.

2) Almost all (in stock) orders being shipped to the East Coast and Midwest ship from the Ingram Micro facility in Jonestown, PA.

3) If FedEx took possession of your order on Thurs (says "picked up" in tracking) you will get it on Monday, regardless of what the tracking says unless there was an unforeseen weather delay.

4) If you don't get it w/i two days of FedEx having "picked up" your order then call Apple and they will give you a shipping refund.

5) In the future, realize that Apple's Expedited Shipping is for the most part unnecessary since all orders coming from overseas go air whether you paid for it or not, and most orders coming from the US ship can reach their destination by FedEx Ground in 2 days.

Grr..

I wish I would have known this. So if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, call them up? I can understand if it was shipped out thursday, it should TECHNICALLY be here tomorrow.

Frustrating.

another??

A lot of people have had problems with 2-day shipping. I've read tons of threads about FedEx and 2 day shipping arriving like a week later. Maybe apple is just trying to get more money by saying 2-day.

Still, I would use the Apple email form that they have for shipping refund requests. Say you were specifically quoted Saturday and looked forward to it. Maybe they won't do it, but its fair to present your situation and see what they say.

Do you think calling an Apple CSR would be more effective than email?

Yes. Since you rec'd a shipped notice on Thurs then Monday is techically the 2nd day, and when it should be delivered. So if it's not delivered tomorrow I would def. call up Apple. They will refund you. If the CSR won't then ask to talk to a supervisor, but usually they will refund you. Occasionally you get a real jerk for a CSR that will give you every reason why they can't refund but if you go higher up it will get done.

It's not that. When you pay for FedEx 2day, that's really what Apple uses. It's just a quirk in the FedEx shipping matrix. If you order near the end of the week and you aren't ordering anything special, regular shipping is probably going to be about the same speed. 2day shipping also can't be guaranteed for overseas shipments because of customs clearance. All shipping is variable, and it's really hard to win all the time. Basically, it breaks down to overnight service and everything else.

What 2day service gives you is a guarantee of two business days after receipt or you can get your money back--it doesn't mean it'll go on a special plane or that they'll cancel other things to meet that deadline. If it's cheaper for FedEx to take 3 days and risk just not making any money on your item, that's what they'll do if they're trying to meet other demands.

Is there a special apple customer service number I need to call? Or just the same number I used to order?

I only mentioned the email because they have a specific form for requesting shipping refund. I'm sure they'll do it on the phone too. Call regular oder number and select that its about existing order.

Well, those jackasses decided to deliver today, BUT they didn't even ring the doorbell! My brother was home the entire time, (while I was at school) and he said he didn't hear a single thing. Looks like they just ran up to the door and slapped a "we missed you" sticker on there. Grrr. Now I have to drive 35 min away to go pick it up at their facility.

Yeah, same thing happened with my G5 last fall. Two days with people at home waiting for the computer and no knock, no doorbell, no nothing. The day before I had to go back to school, I woke up at 7AM, wrote "RING DOOR BELL" on a sheet of paper with an arrow pointing to the button, and taped it to the door. About 2 hours later, Fedex guy shows up, and didn't seem too pleased with the sign. I say, so your job and I wont be a smartass.

It chaps me when they don't just drop software. I just reordered iLife after they came twice and didn't drop without a signature. Got a full refund on the first one with a one-minute call to Apple.

I can understand requiring a signature for a $2000 computer, but it's a bit much for software.
