Some tend to steer clear of Apple's first version of a product, be it hardware device, accessory or software (IOS, Apps etc.).

But which of Apple's first gen products have you been most impressed with?

My top three would have to be;

Airpods...Perhaps the greatest tech accessory of the last decade. So many loved them at launch, & I don't think I've seen more people who avoided them like the plague at first, but who now regret not buying them years ago. Practical, decent build quality, battery life, ultra portable (including case), above average audio, customisation (tap commands), syncing to IOS....a liberating experience for those who haven't gone truly wireless.

They effortlessly became a part of everyday usage for me to the point where I could justify subscribing to music streaming services which as a result introduced me to more music in the last 2 years as perhaps the prior 5...

iPhone X...Apple's new direction with the iPhone was a dare I say it, a courageous one (#notafanboi). They already had a minimalist, singular Home button that simplified the UI for young & old users for 9 years, & paved the way for competitors to design their smartphones.

But to remove that significant Home Button, whilst necessary, was risky. They not only replaced it, but came up with the seamless gestures that we use today. They're not all perfected for one-handed use on every sized model of iPhone, but they're so user-friendly for most & together with the smaller form factor of the X, it was made as easy as possible to negotiate the larger screen in a smaller body that for many, the gestures were as natural to learn as the Home Button was in prior generation iPhones.

IOS 12*...An IOS focused on stability & bug fixes. It made the iPhone X of a year ago - whilst still a great performer - run like well oiled machine. It breathed new life into 3+ year old tablets & iPhones, bringing back the old slick feel of these devices which went missing for a while (on some more than others).

*12th iteration :(

My vote goes to Airpods too. Other than the missing ability to change volume level, I think they nailed it. And iPhone 4 and 6 are pretty high in my book.

Actually, it seems quite opposite, most do _Not_ steer away from first GEN products, they actually are attracted to them, especially products like the AirPods, Apple Watch, etc.

In this latest era with Apple products, the AirPods and Apple Watch are by far the two best products/accessories to the iPhone. The Apple Watch especially being more conducive in terms of water will offer in the future with health benefits and ultimately I envision a day where it will replace the iPhone, but that technology is not ready yet.

Curious, what is stopping you from replacing the iPhone with your Apple watch?

For one, battery longevity. Ultimately we have to reach a point where the Apple Watch can survive more than just 18 hours on a single charge, not to mention, it might be significantly less or more depending on usage and settings with the watch. But once the Apple Watch actually reaches a spectrum where it can have glucose monitoring, and any other future health advancements along side advancements over lithium ion technology, then eventually it _could_ replace the iPhone.

For me HomePod, strictly for awesome sound. Maybe this doesn’t count since Apple did release a speaker before :)

How exactly is iOS 12 a first gen product? It's basically a fix of iOS 11 and what iOS 11 should have been.
Wait, I just realised why I included it - in terms of each IOS released, I thought IOS12 was great 'out of the box' & didn't need 12.0.1, unlike say IOS11 (& some other prior releases), which went through many .x.x versions before it was considered ok (although IOS11 never really hit its straps eh).

Not the first iPad with its weird case.

Not the first Apple Pencil with the charging situation.

Not the trash can Mac Pro.

Not the cube PowerMac G4.

Not the first MacBook Air, it overheated.

Not the first Apple Watch, it’s too slow.

First iPhone was solid.

First Retina MacBook Pro was great. 2012.

AirPod is solid.

Ah, ok I get where you were going with that now. Yes, iOS 12 has been solid right from 12.0, in contrast to iOS 11 which (at least for me) took until 11.3 to feel stable.

AirPods are classic Apple. Take something already in the market and make it a magical experience. They’re so effortless and liberating I wish I’ve always had them. And I was a cynic on launch with pricing and sound quality.

Most people would argue the iPhone X is the 11th or 12th generation of a product.

The home button was around for over 10 years when the X came out.

AirPods and Apple Watch were solid.

Even the HomePod.
I dont think the Apple Watch was solid at all. It launched on old slow hardware and the software was basically beta. The first Apple Watch was nothing special imo.

iPhone 5
iOS 6
OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
17" PowerBook G4
PowerMac G4 Quicksilver
Acrylic Apple Cinema Display

My thinking here was that it was a whole new direction for Apple in design, UI.

It's the most drastic alteration to the iPhone I think, moreso than the size upgrades to the 4, 6 & Plus models.

The user interaction with the phone was completely overhauled, yet it didn't feel like much of a change at all because of how well it was implemented.

Well yall are making me want Airpods!

Honestly, I’m not a tech savvy person by any stretch, but I have 4 kids (now adults) and 7 grandkids, and over the last 15 or so years we have owned a TON of Apple products.

I, my kids and my grandkids have had (between us) an eMac, iBooks (gosh I loved those little laptops) iPods, iPod videos, iPod Nanos, iPod shuffles, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMacs, every iPhone made times 4 or 5, every iPad made, every iPad mini made, and every iPad Pro made (up until this latest release - actually, not true - we had both 12.9s and a 9.7; no 10.5).

We have also had every generation of Apple Watch, plus several Apple TVs and AirPort Extreme.

I can truthfully say that I have never had a single one of those products not function perfectly out of the box. The only Apple product I have ever returned was the XS Max, and that was because of my sensitivity to the OLED; not because the device wasn’t perfect.

I just don’t think I could pick which of those I truly thought was the best because they were all so awesome at the time.

Although my AirPod works well for music and movies, talk time is horrible.
